AirGap - Builders Project Application Track

Project Overview

AirGap is a self-custody wallet supporting multiple cryptocurrencies with the main focus on security and usability. With AirGap’s unique approach a dedicated smartphone with the AirGap Vault mobile application becomes your offline hardware wallet where secrets are securely generated and stored. The companion application AirGap Wallet is installed on an everyday smartphone and responsible for connection to the internet and the protocols.

Communication between the two devices is done through QR codes. If a user wants to send SDN to another account by entering the receiving address and amount, AirGap Wallet displays a QR code that is scanned by AirGap Vault on the other device. Transaction is signed in AirGap Vault and AirGap Wallet scans the QR code with the signed transaction to broadcast it to the network.

AirGap Vault and AirGap Wallet can also be installed on the same device, still providing additional security by profiting from the application sandboxing of the mobile operating system. Communication in that case between the apps work with app switching, one app opens the other.

Team

The AirGap team is part of Papers, a Swiss software development company with the focus on mobile security and Blockchain. Papers has been around for over 10+ years and has great amount of knowledge in the respective fields. The AirGap project has been established in 2018 and maintained by a team at Papers, AirGap is completely open source.

Builders Program Roadmap

Milestones

The development is split into two phases, starting with the integration of Shiden and then building on that foundation for Astar.

AirGap will join the Shiden & Astar dApp staking mechanism to create basic income for developing and maintaining AirGap for the Astar ecosystem. In the near future extra rewards generated through dApp staking will be used inside AirGap to incentivize users holding and usage of SDN or ASTR.

Hello,

I’ve heard Beacon sdk from Tez community. And with Astar - Shiden, may I know, how far the future is? Since you only wrote this section on future plans.

interesting project! Would scanning the QR code make the transaction more secure? :slight_smile:

The most secure approach is when you have an offline device, where you scan the transaction QR as it’s only a one way communication between the devices if you would e.g. use Bluetooth you can not ensure that data is sent between the devices.

Thanks for the warm welcome, appreciate it.

There is working going on to make the Beacon SDK more generic, splitting up the SDK itself into multiple packages which allows for protocols like Astar/Shiden to utilize it as well, which should be possible quite soon.
