dApp Staking - Migration From v2 to v3

Thank you for update. I agree too.
I’ll continue checking to support any staker especially.

I really love the dApp staking v3 structure, but is there a chance for ledger native support to come simultaneously with v3?

We have millions of dollars in TVL. It’s truly disheartening that this isn’t coming.

Two months may seem like a long time in crypto. If possible, I request it to be released simultaneously with v3.

Only including myself, the TVL volume of my community here is at least $7 million on Ledger. Please note that this is a significant amount. Make this situation our priority.

I am proud of you. @watanabesota @Maarten

With regards,
Leo

It would be nice if Ledger native support comes. During this period, a 10-day unstake period will be challenging for us.

Very valuable information. I think that the separation of these actions will improve the process, by the simple fact that it reduces errors.

Like @Leo, I think that including the Ledger functionality is of utmost importance.

There might be significant issues without Ledger Native support with dApp staking v3. Many users in the Turkish community are currently unable to claim their rewards.

Apart from this, we should not forget that Astar Network has reached a 1 billion market cap. Many of us holding a substantial amount of crypto, myself included, use Ledger. The absence of Ledger support will pose a challenging situation for us.

The lack of Ledger support at the beginning of the dApp staking v3 update will truly disappoint us. Instead of rushing, we should consider thoughtful and clean solutions. I am willing to volunteer to work on initiatives to expedite this situation and implement Ledger support.

While the situation is acknowledged by Ledger, there are actions we can take to accelerate the process, such as initiating communication. Considering the significant value of the Polkadot and Astar Network ecosystems, reaching out for dialogue would be beneficial. We urge immediate attention to this matter.

Generic Polkadot app is in development by Zondax, and it has nothing to do with dApp staking v3 development, or any other project. Here is the official Polkadot forum thread about the topic.

The v2 interface is very different from the v3.
It’s possible to provide hacky way to unlock & claim unlocked (unbonded) funds from the protocol since that’s a simple functionality, but staking & reward claiming is completely different from what it was.

And keep in mind - Ledger EVM app support will be available immediately.
So transferring funds there would enable users to use dApp staking v3 immediately.
I am aware that this means that you’d have to undergo the unbonding period.

However, the generic app will use a different key derivation scheme than the Astar Native app (or any other parachain app), so users will have to migrate their funds to a new account anyhow if they want to use the generic Ledger app.

The 10-day loss of my own money in the unbound process is 60k astr. Thanks for not protecting it from inflation.

You don’t have to loose anything.
For the reminder, please check again dApp staking v3 & Tokenomics 2.0 docs.

Unbonding/unlocking period lasts for some time (e.g. 10 days).
Voting subperiod lasts for some time (not decided yet, will probably be longer than 10 days).

If you start the unlocking process at the beginning of the Voting subperiod, that gives you enough time to get the funds out, transfer them to another account, lock & stake. There’s no monetary loss here.

More information will be shared when it becomes available.
Zondax hasn’t yet shared any documentation about how the new generic & migration apps will work, and until then I cannot give any more comments about this.

If the team can make it 14 days will be very helpful for Ledger Users. For Dapp staking in EVM, are we to assume it will be Zkatana or AstarEVM?

@JCFishing 14 days as you mention is still a high amount of time assuming that what we are looking for is to decrease friction, however, this issue will become clearer soon.

On the other hand, remember that zKatana is the testnet of our future Astar zkEVM. Also remember that EVM is different from zkEVM, one is a pallet the other is a layer 2 of the Ethereum ecosystem.

If possible, the 14 days for the initial on-boarding to V3 staking (one time exception)? This way, the ledger users will not be affected in terms of missing staking rewards.

I completely agree with this.

Having millions of dollars in TVL among Ledger users makes a 14-day period really convenient. No one wants to deal with second-by-second situations.

Thanks for the clarification, Leo!

Alongside this discussion, we have added some info from here to a FAQ section on Astar Docs to get more visibility. We will add more Q&As there as we progress.

Excellent! We needed a FAQs section just to explain about dApp Staking V3, great job!

Thank you for this doc. Most people have auto stake after claim turned on now. Should we turn it off in case the migration happens and it cannot automatically stake? Knowing the time frame of migration will help as well. Thanks again!
