Specification changes during the voting period

I am new to English and new to the forum.
I’m posting so if you feel uncomfortable.
I’m sorry why was the spec change made to hide the dapps ranking during this voting period? There was a forum vote and a suggestion.
My apologies if I missed it.
If not, I would like to know why the spec was changed during the voting period.

Usually there are proposals to be discussed. It seems to be a matter of voting and making a decision. Isn’t it a little different this time? What input did you receive and from whom? Also, I would like clarification as to who made and implemented the decision.

Why doesn’t ASTER
Why don’t we have a process of guidance (notice) → execution?
I think most people would say “Oh, I see” if we just let them do that.

I think it is more efficient and time consuming to do the post-processing.
I think it’s more efficient.

Hello!

It’s great to see new community members posting here.

I’d like to add to what you’ve mentioned. Recently, the dApp Staking rankings on Astar Portal were hidden without any announcement. This change occurred during the Voting Period, causing confusion among some community members.

Ideally, this implementation should have been completed before the start of the voting period, and if a specification change was to be made midway, there should have been prior communication. Since Astar Portal is entirely managed by the Astar Foundation as the frontend, it’s understandable that regular updates might not require special approval. They accept feedback, and developers can submit pull requests on GitHub.

However, making a frontend update during an event like the dApp Staking Voting Period without any communication is problematic. This situation is different from regular updates. At the very least, even if it is after the fact, it’s strange that there has been no official announcement or explanation regarding the update and its purpose. It’s important to recognize that some users may develop distrust over such small details.

As for whether the rankings should be displayed during the voting period, there are both advantages and disadvantages depending on perspective, so I won’t address that here.

This is about Astar Foundation’s decision-making and execution process, as well as its approach to engaging with the community. Therefore, I believe a transparent response is necessary.

I, too, think that this revision should not have been done.
I hope that this forum exchange will be properly reflected in the management.

Great to see more community activity here. Same as You, I’d like to chime in regarding the recent change in the Astar Portal. During the Voting Period, the dApp Staking rankings were hidden without prior warning. Understandably, that caused some confusion among our community. Ideally, this update should have been implemented before voting started, or at least clearly communicated.

While the Astar Foundation handles the frontend, changes in such an event-even if open to feedback-cannot be made without explanation; otherwise, it creates mistrust. More transparency and timely communication would keep up community confidence.

The description of each dApp in dApp Staking has not been updated since the first time, and some of them have become ghosts when you look into the community. Even if you try to find out what dApps are currently popular, you will only find information related to rewards, and even if you want to know the contents of the project, you may be suspicious that it is an exaggerated advertisement. I understand that the Astar Foundation is in a neutral position, but I hope that they will be a little more considerate from the perspective of users who are participating in dApp Staking for the first time. I think this dApp Staking system is great, so I have high expectations.

Yes, your opinion is absolutely valid.
However, while it is related to dAppStaking, it seems different from the topic of this thread. If you wish to continue the discussion, it might be better to start a new thread.

Thank you.

Thank you for this great suggestion, I agree with you, the description should be updated, maybe each voting period would be a good time for the team to update it and get the support from community for the dApp staking. There should be an introduction about projects for new astar users, that would help them with understanding how to vote, and deciding which project to support.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for bringing up your concerns regarding the recent removal of the leaderboard from dApp Staking during the voting period. I’d like to clarify our reasoning behind this adjustment and address the timing.

The decision to take down the leaderboard was made to foster a fairer environment for all dApp projects seeking support in dApp Staking. We observed a trend where users tended to stake with the first dApp on the leaderboard, often due to convenience rather than specific project engagement. While the first dApp on the leaderboard is typically Astar Core Contributors, we felt that allowing this pattern to continue would create an imbalance, reducing visibility for other projects and limiting fair distribution of support. By removing the leaderboard during the voting period, we aim to encourage users to explore and evaluate all projects independently, which we believe strengthens the overall ecosystem. The leaderboard will come back during the Build&Earn period.

We acknowledge that the timing of this change was not ideal, and we apologize for the disruption it may have caused. This update was originally intended to be implemented before the voting period began, but it was ultimately executed during the voting phase. This feedback has been shared internally, and we will take it into account in future planning to minimize any potential for confusion.

Finally, as the Astar Foundation manages the ongoing development and updates of multiple Astar sites, including the Astar Portal, we aim to make efficient changes to ensure a smooth user experience. Posting proposals for every single portal update could delay necessary improvements, so we focus on using forum proposals for larger governance and ecosystem decisions.

Thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate your continued feedback as we work to make Astar a better platform for all.

It seems to be a decision taken to be fairer and to use competition in a positive way. Users tended to stake on the first-ranked dApp, reducing the visibility of other projects. The leaderboard will return after the voting period. However, it would have been nice if the process was presented to the community faster and a decision was reached after a discussion, but it is important to remember that the team was simultaneously dealing with soneium, running the LFGM campaign and preparing for the new season, so some decisions may have had to be made centrally and quickly.
