[FAQ] How to estimate how many SDN you will receive from crowdloan

Hey everyone, since there’s quite a bit of confusion around calculating number of SDN tokens received for each KSM contributed to the crowdloan, I came up with a few more example to help you understand the formula a bit better. It’s not very scary once you understand how to calculate

What we know

TL;DR

What matters the most is how much you contributed compared to everyone else i.e.:

  1. how many KSM you put in and bonuses if any
  2. how many KSM everyone else put in and bonuses if any

This allows us to calculate your % relative to everyone else. With this % value, you just need to multiply the % with 15,400,000 to estimate how many SDN you will receive.

Things to note before we begin

  • These are just EXAMPLES!
  • The numbers that I used (e.g. number of contributors, how much each contributor puts in) are very small numbers to help make understanding the formula better! In reality, these numbers WILL be very different.

Example 1

  • Maarten puts 10 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Sota puts 20 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Simon puts 5 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Win first auction

Maarten gets (10 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 6)) ≈ 28.57% so Maarten will get 4,399,780 tokens.
Sota gets (20 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 6)) ≈ 57.14% so Sota will get 8,799,560 tokens.
Simon gets (5 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 6)) ≈ 14.28% so Simon will get 2,199,120 tokens.
Sum all = 100%

Example 2

  • Maarten puts 10 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Sota puts 20 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Simon puts 5 KSM after day 2 (i.e. day 3) of 1st auction
  • Win first auction

Maarten gets (10 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 5)) ≈ 29.26% so Maarten will get 4,506,040 tokens.
Sota gets (20 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 5)) ≈ 58.53% so Sota will get 9,013,620 tokens.
Simon gets (5 * 5) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 6) + (5 * 5)) ≈ 12.19% so Simon will get 1,877,260 tokens.
Sum all = 100%

Example 3

  • Maarten puts 10 KSM before end of day 2 of 1st auction
  • Sota puts 20 KSM after day 2 (i.e. day 3) of 1st auction & before end of day 2 of 2nd auction
  • Simon puts 5 KSM after day 2 (i.e. day 3) of 2nd auction
  • Win second auction

Maarten gets (10 * 6) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 5) + (5 * 4)) ≈ 33.33% so Maarten will get 5,132,820 tokens.
Sota gets (20 * 5) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 5) + (5 * 4)) ≈ 55.55% so Sota will get 8,554,700 tokens.
Simon gets (5 * 4) / ((10 * 6) + (20 * 5) + (5 * 4)) ≈ 11.11% so Simon will get 1,710,940 tokens.
Sum all = 100%

As you can see, it is actually very easy once you understand how to calculate your own %! We also created a calculator app to help you to calculate this. Most importantly, what you should take away from this is the earlier you contribute to our crowdloan, the more bonus you will get!

If you have any more questions, please ask away

Wow this is great… But again take note this ksm figures are just an example. And we are talking about thousands of ksm will be lock. Just buy more ksm now and get ready for the crowd loan. Lets go…

Yes, thanks for helping me to re-emphasize that these are just example numbers. In reality, we expect a lot more to be locked!

Remember, the earlier you lock, the higher your bonus! If you look at my third example, suppose that Simon were to lock 10 KSM like Maarten, Maarten will still receive 50% more tokens than Simon! This is a huge difference!

This clarifies some doubts I had about how it works! Thanks!
