Is AstarSafe Secure and Regularly Maintained?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion — or rather, I have a few questions about the AstarSafe dApp, the multisig wallet deployed on Astar Network and used by AFC for treasury staking.

After a quick check, I had some questions:

Is AstarSafe actually a clone of Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe)?

The AstarSafe build version seems to be 1.51.3 (shown on the site), while the official Safe build is already at 1.61.19 (also shown on their site) — does this mean it’s not being regularly updated?

Is AFC actively using AstarSafe for their own treasury operations, or is their staking more of an ecosystem support measure?

Given that around 60 million ASTR are reportedly staked via this dApp, it would be important to clarify:

Is AstarSafe still considered secure to use for community and project treasuries?

Is it actively maintained or audited to stay in sync with Safe’s latest updates?

Are there any plans to integrate the official Safe build directly into Astar instead of maintaining a separate forked version?

Our DAO is currently planning to use a multisig wallet setup on top of our staking application, so knowing whether AstarSafe is secure and supported long-term would be really helpful before moving forward.

Would appreciate if anyone from the AFC or AstarSafe team could share insights here.

Thanks!

Regards,

Jonas

Astar Safe team will need to answer regarding the maintenance and management status of Astar Safe. However, in response to the question of whether AFC is using Astar Safe, the answer is yes.

The multisig wallet applications used by AFC are as follows:

  • Astar Native: Mimir
  • Astar EVM: Astar Safe
  • Soneium EVM: Superchain Safe

Hi, @Jonas1

My name is Anton, I’m managing the team responsible for maintaining Safe on Astar. Thanks for being interested in our solution.
I’ll do my best to respond all questions.

Is AstarSafe actually a clone of Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe)?

Yes, Safe on Astar is a fork of the Safe{Wallet}, that is adopted to be used on the Astar networks. Used contracts are canonical Safe contracts, that are deployed with SafeSingletonFactory, so bytecode of those contracts is equal to ones on the networks from Safe Global.

The AstarSafe build version seems to be 1.51.3 (shown on the site), while the official Safe build is already at 1.61.19 (also shown on their site) — does this mean it’s not being regularly updated?

Components of Safe on Astar are regularly updated(usually with ~ 2 month cycle), following the Safe Global. Current upgrade is going slightly slower due to the changes in the internal procedures, but new version has been deployed and tested on staging environment and will be delivered shortly to production.

Is AstarSafe still considered secure to use for community and project treasuries?

Is it actively maintained or audited to stay in sync with Safe’s latest updates?

I hope, points above solve those 2 questions. But we also actively monitoring the solution and provide unscheduled updates in case of discovered issues. If you personally facing any problems, feel free to report them though our help form.

And by the way, we’re also available in case if you’re interested in integrating you staking application to the list of the Safe Apps on the Astar Safe.

Let me know, if you would like to clarify anything else!
