OnFinality High Performance RPC Infrastructure - Q1 2024

Firstly, from the team at OnFinality I would like to thank the Astar community for your continued support.

Astar’s dApp staking platform helps us to keep our industry leading Astar and Shiden Public RPC services free to the community, driving growth in the Astar ecosystem

Thank You

Original Motivation

Setting up blockchain infrastructure is difficult, time consuming, and expensive:

  • It requires a level of server development expertise that many do not have
  • It’s costly to run a full node nearly continuously, especially when your dApp’s traffic is low and inconsistent.
  • Running production level infrastructure is especially tricky. You need to autoscale quickly to handle bursty traffic, and you want to provide services in different regions around the world to provide low latency services - all of this is incredibly costly, but comes with significant economies of scale for a provider.
  • DevOps requires constant attention - time that would be better spent elsewhere building.

A shared public RPC API service helps mitigate these barriers of entry to trying accessing a new protocol by reducing all these costs to zero. In summary, we reduce the pain of getting started on your and minimise the costs of accessing secure nodes while traffic from your dApp is low. When you grow, you can continue to use our shared API service, or we also provide access to one click deploy dedicated Astar/Shiden Alpha nodes to any cloud of your choosing.

Service Details

OnFinality Astar and Shiden RPC services now run entirely on OnFinality Cloud, the self service cloud running on our own hardware in leading data centers worldwide.

Our Astar RPC has two regions, Hong Kong (Asia Pacific) and North Virginia (USA) for excellent global latency.

Our Shiden RPC is based in Cloud Hong Kong.

OnFinality also runs an Astar bootnode.

Service Average Daily Requests Period Requests (3 Months) Lifetime Requests Period Egress (3 months) 90 Day Uptime

Project Roadmap

OnFinality continues to expand its infrastructure for enhanced global performance and reliability.

In 2025 we will expand our self-service Dedicated Node offering to our Hong Kong region, and are preparing to launch our 3rd OnFinality Cloud region in Europe.

Thanks for the report!
OnFinality has been an infrastructure project supporting Astar since the beginning and is integrated into the Astar Portal as a destination endpoint of choice.
I have personally used RPC as well.

It is interesting to note that Shiden requests have increased since March.

Thank you for all the support since the early days of Astar Network.

Two things have recently caught my attention:

  1. The spike in activity on Shiden over the past few days – I’m not aware of any specific reason behind the surge in network calls lately, and I’d love to understand what’s driving it.
  2. The pattern of network calls on Astar throughout 2025 – even though the market has taken a hit in recent weeks, activity on Astar has remained consistent, which I find really interesting.

Great job since the start!

Have you thought about building your own liquid staking platform to earn more ASTR via dapp staking?

Thank you everyone for your comments and support!

We are also interested by the increase of Shiden requests recently, I’ll see what we can find
