Proposal to Renew Brand Protection Services with ChainPatrol (2026)

Proposal to Renew Brand Protection Services with ChainPatrol

Coverage Period: March 2026 – August 2026 (6 Months)
Date: February 2026

Proposal Summary

ChainPatrol has served as Astar Network’s official brand protection partner since May 2024, following community approval of our initial proposal. Over this period, we have actively protected the Astar ecosystem by detecting, blocking, and removing phishing attacks, impersonation attempts, and other malicious activity targeting both the Astar team and its community.

As Astar prepares for new product launches and increased visibility in 2026, the threat landscape will continue to expand. We are requesting community approval to renew ChainPatrol’s services for an additional 6-month period, aligned with Astar’s roadmap and launch timeline.

This proposal follows guidance from the Astar team to structure engagements in 6-month intervals, allowing scope and coverage to be reassessed as new products go live in the second half of the year.

Proposed Terms

Service Period: March 2026 – August 2026 (inclusive)
Cost: $6,000 USD equivalent paid in ASTR tokens
Payment Structure: Single 6-month engagement

A follow-up proposal may be submitted for the subsequent 6-month period once new Astar products are live and service scope can be reassessed.

Thank you for submitting your proposal to Astar Governance!

ChainPatrol provides a vital service that directly impacts our community, as it relates to brand protection and minimizing impersonation risks. This is important if we want to protect and strengthen our brand with users.

Just to clarify, you mentioned that you are aligned with the Astar Roadmap and also referenced Astar’s future products. Does this mean that once the products within the Astar Stack are available for users, ChainPatrol’s protection will also extend to them?

This point raises some questions for me, as I haven’t seen it in action. Could you elaborate on the type of wallet-level protection you provide?

Regarding reporting channels, how would a member of our community report something to you? Do you have a bot?

Looking forward to reading your responses to my questions!

Hi @Juminstock - thank you for the reply and happy to address your questions!

On your first point, we currently have a communication channel setup with members of the Astar team. This will allow us to stay current on any new Astar products and our protection will certainly extend to those assets. We will allowlist any new Brand Assets related to these Astar products to the dedicated Astar dashboard and monitor for any impersonations or phishing attempts related to these new assets.

Our Wallet Security Network is a deep list of 20+ integrations with major wallets such as Metamask, Coinbase and Phantom, as well as more familar wallets to the Astar Ecosystem such as SubWallet. While we are in the process of taking down impersonating URLs, we put these malicious assets on a “Blocklist” that is consumed frequently by these wallets, issuing an initial “Warning Sign” at the extension level to these end users. Below is an example of a Warning Screen for a recent fake Astar Website that was blocked by Metamask before Takedown:

On your final point, our ChainPatrol Bot is available across Slack, Discord and Telegram and serves two basic functions:

  • /check <malicious asset> - Cross reference with ChainPatrol Dashboard to check if the given URL is already reported as a scam
  • /report <malicious asset> - Submit a scam report for the given Malicious Assets

For Astar, we currently have these integrations setup for all 3 (Slack, Discord and Telegram).

Hope this helps to answer your questions!

Thanks for the proposal and for the work done so far.

2026 is clearly a very important year for Astar, with major updates and new products coming. In moments like this, risks usually increase, so having continuous monitoring and wallet-level protection in place is key to protect users and the brand.

The 6-month structure makes sense and keeps things flexible.

From my side, I support the renewal for March–August 2026.

These tools for securing the network seem perfect to me, but there is one interesting point that I didn’t quite understand, which was preventing users from losing their funds and putting up the Metamask e.g image. Could you make a video to show how this specific protection works in real time? Thank you.

To be honest, I would really appreciate hearing feedback from the actual users of ChainPatrol within Astar Core. @Maarten, @Gaius_sama.

How relevant is this service for Astar in terms of real effectiveness?

For example, detecting 10 threats out of a universe of 1,000 potential threats would not necessarily be very meaningful (just using hypothetical numbers). Without a clearer understanding of the scale and impact of the threats being mitigated, it becomes difficult to properly evaluate the value delivered by the service.

At the moment, I find it challenging to support or provide meaningful feedback on this proposal because I am not a direct user of the product and I do not have access to data regarding the threats or incidents that ChainPatrol has helped prevent.

The amount requested does not seem unreasonable, and from a treasury perspective it does not appear to be a major concern. My main point is simply understanding whether this payment truly reflects tangible value for the ecosystem.

Since this is more of a backbone security solution, the benefits may not be directly visible to end users. However, having clearer insight into the concrete impact of the service would make it much easier to assess its importance for Astar.

If there are metrics, reports, or case studies demonstrating the threats detected or incidents avoided, that would be extremely helpful for the community to better evaluate the proposal.

Hey @Vangardem sharing below a link to a Loom Video showing the Wallet Blocking in action:

The video showcases a Website that was recently added to our Blocklist, which now provides a warning sign when an end user views it.

The warning sign provides end users from losing funds by informing them of the potential for malicious activity on the site, providing an initial stopgap within minutes of the asset being added to the Blocklist. Of course, we then move forward with the processing of these Takedowns leveraging the Legal Documents provided to us to ensure it is fully removed.

Hey @pitcoin777 thanks for your reply. Will allow @Gaius_sama and team to comment, but re-sharing the metrics of our work over the past year below:

Over the past year, we have:

  • Identified 535 Malicious Threats impersonating Astar
  • Filed 583 Takedown Filings/Re-Filings across Domains and Social Mediums
  • Completed 475 Takedowns of Malicious Threats

As each of these potential threats represents the potential for thousands of dollars of damage to an end user, our service protects Astar users from interacting with these assets, providing value to those users in the form of prevented financial losses, reduced fraud exposure, and greater confidence when engaging with the Astar ecosystem. We’re proud of the impact these efforts continue to deliver and remain fully committed to keeping the network safe for everyone.

Blocking malicious and fake links is an absolutely essential measure to protect users. Scammers often clone official websites 1:1, making it incredibly easy for people to fall for the trap.

I’ve personally seen these cases on platforms like Telegram, X, and Discord. Some people have lost their assets, and even worse, had their wallets completely compromised and controlled by others, which is a truly devastating experience.

Therefore, I fully support this proposal.

Hi @DSChainPatrol Thank you very much for presenting this proposal and for your ongoing work to protect the ecosystem!

Without a doubt, having proactive monitoring and rapid incident resolution capabilities is clearly valuable for the entire ecosystem.

Honestly, I’ve never used the product, so I don’t have personal experience to draw upon to support any opinion. However, after observing the shared metrics from previous work, which show the volume of threats detected and their removal, I certainly believe this service has actively contributed to reducing users’ exposure to phishing and identity theft attempts targeting the Astar Network ecosystem.

I also believe the requested amount is reasonable, so I agree to renew the service under the proposed terms.

Hi @DSChainPatrol

Thanks for the proposal and for the continued work keeping the Astar ecosystem safe.

From the Foundation side, ChainPatrol has been a solid part of our security setup. The service runs largely in the background: automated detection, wallet-level blocking, takedown filings. That’s exactly what you want from this type of tool. The value shows up in what doesn’t reach users: fake airdrop sites, phishing domains, impersonation campaigns across X, Telegram, and beyond.

With the Astar Stack launching later this year, continuity here matters. New products mean an expanded attack surface, and having protection already in place rather than onboarding mid-launch is the right call. I’m supportive of this renewal for March–August 2026.

On @pitcoin777’s Question

Happy to share some numbers from our end. Since onboarding, ChainPatrol has processed 3,967 reports, identified 1,941 new threats, filed 1,767 takedowns, and completed 1,635 of them across domain impersonations, fake X accounts, Telegram channels, phishing sites, and fake tokens. Threat activity has also been trending upward heading into 2026, which aligns with increased ecosystem visibility ahead of major launches.

That said, your point about coverage is fair. It’s inherently difficult to quantify threats that were never acted on. What I can confirm is that the threats we do detect are being handled effectively, and the wallet-level blocking provides a meaningful first layer of protection while takedowns process.

Next Steps for @DSChainPatrol

Once the forum discussion concludes, here’s what you’ll need to do to move this on-chain:

1. Confirm the ASTR amount The $6,000 USD will be converted using the 30-day EMA price on the day you submit the on-chain proposal. Check the ASTR price chart on Subscan, use the 30-day EMA value, and calculate the ASTR amount accordingly.

2. Submit the Treasury Proposal on Subsquare Go to astar.subsquare.io, navigate to Treasury → New Proposal, enter the payout amount in ASTR and your beneficiary wallet address (Substrate format), then submit. You’ll need some ASTR in your wallet to cover the proposal bond. Full guide here (Track #2): Astar Governance Guide.

3. Create a Public Referendum Once the treasury proposal is submitted and you have its numeric ID, you’ll need to create a preimage and submit a Public Proposal on Subsquare to put it to a community vote. Navigate to Advanced → Preimages → New Preimage, select the treasury.approveProposal extrinsic, enter the proposal ID, and note the preimage hash. Then go to Democracy → Public Proposals → New Proposal and submit using that hash. Full guide here (Track #1): Astar Governance Guide.

4. Share the proposal links in this thread Once both the treasury proposal and the referendum are live, post the Subsquare links here so the community can track and vote.

Feel free to reach out directly if you need any guidance along the way.

My personal opinion that in the current market and current phase of Astar while we are working on its products, its not worth it. When I analyzed latest data, it also includes data not related to Astar and not everything as stated is stopped or removed.
