Age Of Chronos - UCG Proposal

UCG Proposal for Astar Network

Sfy Labs is requesting a UCG grant for an initial period of 4 months, renewable up to 8 months if the work is well received by the community.

SFY commits to beginning the development of a Dungeon Saga for Astar Network within Age of Chronos, a game currently in development on the Moonbeam network.

SFY will provide regular progress reports and documentation in accordance with the terms of the grant.

The game will be made available to the Astar community as a tool for airdrops and reward distribution.

Allocation of Funds:

  • Support ongoing operational costs, including game server infrastructure and third-party services (e.g., Thirdweb, which currently costs approximately $500/month).
  • Fund a paymaster wallet to cover gas fees on behalf of players. This will enable free-to-play experiences (such as minting, crafting, and other blockchain interactions), made possible through our integration with Thirdweb’s gasless transaction features.
  • Invest in marketing and community growth efforts to expand both the game’s reach and the Astar ecosystem.

Currently, six team members are actively working on the game. With the support of this grant, we could significantly accelerate development and deliver something unique for Astar, while also fostering interaction between communities across different chains.

This is a summary document made for Moonbeam, we will create a similar development also on astar, so here you can read exactly everything we will propose to you (also based on possible collaborations with other projects on astar, we have already had numerous requests in private and we are evaluating them):

Please note:
Since we are also proposing support through direct grants, UCG could help us manage long-term expenses, such as server costs, thirdweb services and community airdrop provision, or be, in the event of approval of the direct grant, a financial aid to accelerate development in the short term.

Other info on the project was shared in this post:

Thank you for your support.

As already stated in their Treasury proposal thread, the team are planning on implementing the Astar token for transactions, and attracting new fresh users to the Astar (and by extension Soneium) ecosystem.

They have the lead RMRK developer Stephen - who also works with Evrloot as a consultant - as one of the main dev’s on their team.

They will be developing smart contracts which will enhance the functionality of the entire ecosystem. Every single NFT project (and non NFT projects can also benefit) on Astar will benefit from this, as AOC offers direct collaboration opportunities (for example - Astar Degens can populate items for collection in the AOC game to try and onboard new users)

Please see feedback from the founder of Evrloot below - taken from their discord today. Evrloot is the most popular game / experience / application on Polkadot / Moonbeam by far. This is the potential AOC has if Astar support it like Moonbeam has supported Evrloot.

The risk / reward ratio for the upside here doesn’t get any better

I’m excited to see the team active here again!

I’d like to know if there are any plans for a migration or integration with Soneium, considering that Astar is now fully aligned with Soneium and that it will serve as the main hub for entertainment and gaming. I understand the team hasn’t deployed on Astar yet, and I’m asking about a different chain — but I believe the natural path will be Astar > Soneium. So perhaps planning the roadmap with this focus from the beginning could simplify things down the line.

I also have a few questions regarding financial support. It’s important for the team to keep an eye on the UCG period, renewal process, and tier conditions. I highlight this because there was a previous incident in the dApp Staking program that led the team to pause development in the ecosystem.

@pitcoin777 Chiming in one last time to answer one of your queries because I am directly involved - link to posts below.

In summary we are already working with Stephen (RMRK and Age Of Chronos lead dev) and @ilan from NFT Bridges so that RMRK standard NFTs can be bridged to Soneium.

AOC NFTs are more complex as they are 3D but the groundwork is happening now.

Hey, your concerns are right. let’s start by clarifying one thing at the time when AOC was listed, UCG was 2 million and did not guarantee certain access to any tier, we were probably the ones who pointed this out, for this reason we decided not to accept, having a threshold close to 15 million astr, and wanting certain support (there was not the rule that there is today of being financially self-sufficient) we could not continue. for this reason we asked for both the Grant and UCG, the combo of these two will allow us to work in serenity, and the Astar community to receive value without worries. Development-control-payment. I would like an honest assessment of the current state of development on layer 1, the question we always ask is: if it has to continue to be there, given that Astar rightly wants to play its game on multiple fronts, why not favor teams like sfy? we could start to set an example and maybe in a few months the very concept of development on astar could be something different. About Soneium, we can technically do everything. It’s not a problem, we just need to understand how to manage the nfts marketplace, since Soneium is not supported on singular today, but the game could be developed there tomorrow if we wanted. It could be the natural arrival point of the project, that’s why we want to start first from L1

Looks like a solid proposal from SFY Labs. Bringing Age of Chronos to Astar with gasless transactions, community rewards, and cross-chain features sounds like a great way to boost engagement. Excited to see more updates and how this could grow the ecosystem!

Hello, @SFY_Labs team. It’s a pleasure to engage with you again on our forum.

I’ve been reviewing your proposal and the documents you’ve shared to better understand your goals within our ecosystem. I don’t want to dwell too much on the past, but I recall that one of your main concerns was that projects with less “development” were receiving more staking. We had concluded that this was largely due to the marketing strategies those projects had in place.

Now, focusing on the present, what marketing or collaboration strategy do you have in mind?

It would be great to know that this will be a key area of focus for you in this new stage, as your solid development + a strong marketing strategy could position you very well within our ecosystem.

I’ll be happy to read your plans and support you with your strategy.

Hi @Juminstock we never gave credit to marketing, on the contrary, we said the opposite, that marketing and proposals were insufficient because at the time dapp staking had a hierarchical structure based on the first come, first served. it probably still is, but not because of the projects but because of people’s indifference we have practically excluded from the project, airdropped all the rewards and refunded at a huge loss all those who had financed the game through the purchase of nfts (at the time the concept of free to play did not exist). At the time ucg was only 2 million, an insufficient measure that was then changed, for this reason we had to head towards moonbeam despite tangible development. We have always expressed the desire in any case to create a multichain game and where in the future we could interact between different networks, so this is not a bad thing on either side. Now we have asked and clarified every single aspect. then transparent than this is not possible. we would be paid via Grant or ucg only after having presented certain milestones, on the forum the proposal is welcomed also given the current state of dapp staking, in short we cannot find a valid reason for not being supported on our side, we hope all this is welcomed favorably by astar too. We have no problem even signing a binding contract as a company on both Grant and ucg. Something like AoC does not exist on Astar and as @Dumbell explained the only game that uses the same technical parameters in the entire dotsama ecosystem is Evrloot which we are inspired by even if with our personal skills, more interactive game and 3d customization. we really did everything possible for this ecosystem, now the ball is in the community’s court and also to people like you who have a specific role in it. Thank you :folded_hands:

I see. Let’s allow the community to decide the future.

Thank you for your proposal!

Hello @SFY_Labs,
As explained in your proposal, you have requested a UCG proposal and a Treasury grant. What will happen if your UCG proposal is accepted but not your Treasury grant?
Will you develop on Astar or Soneium and release something?

Hi @GuiGou

As we mentioned earlier, development may progress more slowly, as a portion of the rewards must also be allocated to it. However, we would still like to emphasize a key point: DApp staking certainly has utility—its purpose is to support development. Yet, due to the number of projects and the limited time available, it is extremely difficult to consistently monitor their development progress. This is not due to negligence, but simply a matter of logistics.

After two years, the community should reflect on what has actually emerged on Layer 1 as a result of these investments—because, ultimately, that’s what they are: investments.

We have presented a parallel proposal which, if accepted:

Does not conflict with the rules of the dappstaking

Involves minimal cost and real oversight of all phases;

Ensures payment only after development is completed, through a milestone-based model.

This does not mean that every project will be able to present grant ideas like ours and therefore obtain it. Our proposal must be evaluated mainly from a technical and value perspective for the network in this historical moment where few care about developing (I am talking about L1, in response to your question, let’s start from L1, Soneium will be a future goal if everything goes well)

This could offer a new way forward for certain projects selected now and in the future within the Astar ecosystem. To our knowledge, no one has ever submitted a proposal of this kind, but the current rules do allow for it.

It’s now up to the community—if it truly cares about the ecosystem’s future—to evaluate whether our proposal can serve as a meaningful starting point.

We kindly ask you to carefully review our grant proposal, considering all the aspects we’ve highlighted in this discussion. Enormous opportunities have been given to many developers in this ecosystem. Some, by their own admission, have earned amounts far exceeding our grant request without delivering anything, even while the token value dropped and requests from DApp controllers were ignored.

Our goal is to turn AOC into a community game, both on Astar and other networks. Some people have criticized us, saying it doesn’t matter whether our team can deliver. But we believe the opposite is true: it does matter. We must recognize and reward teams that have the ability to create real value for the community. Otherwise, what are we even discussing?

To give just one example of the challenges developers face daily: this week, the authentication and transaction management service we use—Thirdweb (which, if we’re not mistaken, also has a partnership with Astar)—changed key parameters in its subscription plans. As a result, we had to immediately update many functions in our code to ensure our game continued to function properly.

We want to engage with the community, be transparent, and bring attention to the real challenges we face every day—not just to deliver our own game, but to spark ideas, conversation, and creativity that others can build upon.

That’s what we call value in any ecosystem.

So please think carefully about our proposal. If we truly want to revive Astar, we need new approaches and a shift in attitude. We are here, and we are ready

Hi @SFY_Labs,

Thank you for all the details.

I want to express my personal support for your UGC and dApp staking application.

However, with Singular announcing its shutdown at the end of 2025 — hopefully, they will reconsider if the situation improves — along with TofuNFT, I am increasingly concerned about the availability of NFT marketplaces on ASTAR EVM. The impending lack of NFT infrastructure could pose a significant challenge for projects like yours.

I know you mentioned the possibility of creating your own marketplace, but it seems this is becoming essential rather than just a “nice to have.”

Could you please share how these shutdowns might impact your project and what your plans are regarding this?

Thank you for your response.

hi, we are in contact with Steven Pineda, singular will not be thrown down at the end of 2025, it should continue for a while without problems. regarding the possible marketplace, we are already thinking about how to do it, but it is a step after the development of the game obviously! We have already anticipated this in the discussion on the grant, precisely because we were aware.
the 3d viewer in singular was practically made on our request, we worked for months with the rmrk team, we could obviously make the same thing where this thing was possible on other native marketplaces astar or soneium, 3d nfts and modulars are incredibly cool, we just need to work on the initial setting, we could give the correct suggestions to anyone who then wants to mine nfts of this kind.

Hi @SFY_Labs,

Thank you for your prompt response.

Regarding Singular, this is not what their X post implied, so I’m glad to know that it was a misunderstanding on the community’s side. However, if you are in contact with the Singular team, please advise them to clarify this matter, as “Singular shutting down at the end of 2025” is what everyone seems to have understood, and Singular did not correct comments mentioning that in their X post.

in any case we will have time to work with marketplace on an alternative, even if as said, singular will not be deactivated at the end of 2025, but will continue. Of course, given that tofu for example was closed, as well as many others, parachains do not have many alternatives … the work of developers who create nfts should be valued rather than penalized because there are no marketplaces. Otherwise a vicious circle will be triggered. we are thinking of creating our own marketplace, as they did on Evrloot, but we must proceed one step at a time. in the meantime the game is in any case free to play and free to mint so there will be no economic implications for players, this is important!

As mentioned before I believe that SFY can contribute to the expansion of Astar Network and I personally find the application to the UCG as an effective way to manage costs. I believe that at least at the beginning the team should focus on being able to maintain the developments and in the later stages with a larger community start using the rewards to reward the stakers.
Good luck with the developments, I will vote Aye to the proposal to the UCG

As an unbiased comment I can say that the most logical thing at the moment would be for SFY to apply for the 1 vacant project seat in UCG.

In the future, with increased confidence and tangible contributions to the Astar ecosystem, you may be able to apply for a grant.

thanks for trusting us. Regarding the grant we have structured a proposal to molestone, all that we will receive in terms of economic support will come only because we have reached the objectives set through the milestones. We are even ready to sign a legal binding contract as we did with moonbeam. For the amount of funds requested, the dapp that we intend to deliver, and above all the possibility that this evolves into something unique for the ecosystem given the technical structure that we have explained several times, the grant as well as ucg is a bet without the possibility of loss for the community in our opinion. The development with the grant would certainly be accelerated and we could give the right importance to our nfts also on astar.

Hi all,

When does this application get voted on?

A possible solution to the Treasury Request referendum is for Sfy Labs to be accepted into UCG, they then deliver on milestone 1 goals, and then apply for the milestone 1 payment.

There is an obvious appetite from the community in this forum for the value @SFY_Labs provide, and this may be the cleanest and quickest path forward. There is a serious lack of gaming on Astar and it is something we sorely need exposure to.

This is obviously only acceptable if Sfy agree to it as this may not be feasible on their side for whatever reason.
