Let's try again: Age Of Chronos proposal

Hello everyone, after about a year since our delist and development focused on the moonbeam ecosystem, we want to try again to be listed as a dapp on astar. We also sent an email with our idea privately to @Maarten without receiving any response, so actually we propose it here for the community.

Our game Age Of Chronos was born with the idea of being usable on different networks, our final goal is to make our 3d nfts equipable, exchangeable through cross-chain actions in the near future.

We do not want to argue again about the past and current state of dapp staking and what made this place unsuitable for our work about a year ago. The current state and the numerous dapps delisted ultimately make everything converge towards ideas that we expressed more than a year ago. It is clear that there are different speeds between the needs of developers and a decentralized community that must make decisions on the matter, and we can understand the problems encountered.

The game will be launched with its first complete level dungeon, on moonbeam very soon, an mvp has been successfully launched.
The game involves the use of rmrk and nfts protocols equipable in 3d, the first collection ever created in this way.

This is a summary of all the work done for those interested:

Our proposal is this:

We can quantify exactly the amount we need to get the development of a complete game also on astar. that allows you to play and earn rewards on the evm network. We can create a complete saga with unlockable dungeons per level onchain via erc7508 protocol and bring astar users to play on L1.

The amount we estimate is around $30,000. This would allow us to create a game with a solid foundation.

The goal is to achieve this through dapp staking over months or through direct funding if there are or are planned. Open to new proposals,

We are willing to work on milestones, with certain times and if necessary since we are a real company, legally bind to it. (as we did for moonbeam).
We will make weekly updates and will be open to answering all questions regarding our work. The goal is to make the game multichain and achieved the goal of creating the saga, the next step (excluded from the current request) is to make users from different chains interact.

Currently in addition to Moonbeam and possibly Astar, we are also trying to collaborate with Polygon. Clearly each network will have different dungeons. Everything we have created is absolutely our property, no assets downloaded from secondary markets have been used, and we can guarantee the use of the game without any infringement problems regarding IP.

However, if there are any questions or prohibitions for our team to participate in the request, given what happened in the past, we ask you to let us know immediately.

A game of this kind, which allows community events such as special promotional activities also by the foundation, is something that is not yet present on astar, and this is really disappointing. We think that a working game and attractive rewards can be the basis of community involvement that is currently missing in the community.
Given that many funds are also currently collected by dapps that do not perform any useful function for the community, and many times have even been abandoned by their creators for a long time, it would be appropriate to use them in the best possible way.

Consider that no developer would currently create what we are doing with this amount of funding. It is impossible for any real company to develop a game for so little. We will do this because we have the ability to optimize costs through the specialization that our firm has acquired in the last 2 years, many other teams have collected much and delivered nothing to you, so take this into consideration.

We remain at your disposal for further questions, we hope that the hatred for past events will be put aside in favor of common sense and the achievement of goals favorable to both.

This sounds great, and 30,000$ is nothing for a complete saga!

Looking forward to the governance proposal to register AoC again!

As a representative for a RMRK project on Astar (ApeXChimpz / AXC), would love to collab with you guys once you are onboarded.

Just a heads up - there’s also a project called NFT Bridges who we are collabing with to support the RMRK standard and it’s NFT protocols - so we might be able to get you guys bridged to Soneium in the future. There’s a Discord group specifically for this development I can add you guys to for awareness (if you are interested) to make sure any requirements you guys need are included in scope.

I’m not here to talk about the past also because I don’t remember the story in detail.
I look at the present and I also saw the update you posted on March 24th about Age of Chronos and I have to say that I really like it both in terms of gameplay and graphic quality. I would be happy to see it in the Astar ecosystem :star:

Yes we think the same. The work we do for each dungeon is immense. We also worked this way on Moonbeam, considering that we pay the unity and blockchain developer and that all the assets are proprietary, it is a paltry amount.

The game aims to connect the various communities and bring value to the ecosystems and the final goal will be to create cross chain exchanges of nfts. We will work on this only after integrating a significant number of chains but we already have a clear idea of how to do it.

This is the third time we try to participate constructively in the ecosystem by making clear everything we can do, in the next few weeks the game will be released with the nomindio saga on Moonbeam and it will be possible to test what we have developed on moonbeam. The game is free to mint and free to play, you will only have to pay some network fees to play the game, but we are talking about cents. Then based on the users and the games that will be played for subsequent development we can safely use abstraction accounts with paymaster and avoid any fees to the players. Dapp staking could also serve this purpose, covering the onchain interactions of players, the funds received could be transferred to the paymaster account and therefore astar would in fact finance the players’ games, with a return in onchain transactions.

We use Thirdweb as a wallet management service and therefore we can easily implement these functions.

Clearly the main structure of the exclusive astar dungeon will have to be developed first. Just as moonbeam’s is present today and hopefully other partners will soon follow.

We are waiting for your feedback, I repeat, we have no problem working on certain milestones in the event that direct funding could be accessed.

Thank you, we hope too, we are proposing ourselves with all our commitment, not only with astar. Whenever we manage to receive the right support, we always complete our work.
Mvp was developed in just 3 months, and is currently online, the first saga will be released in a few weeks and we will do a big promotion activity together with moonebam.
Consider that beyond the graphics of which we are experts, this is the first real 3d equipable collection in the world. No one has ever developed something like this currently, also because it does not make sense in terms of cost-benefit for developers and then there is a big technological obstacle, which is the integration with the rmrk protocol.
We do not want to be presumptuous but to date the developers who have worked with that type of nfts can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Because it makes everything much more challenging, but at the same time it elevates the game to something different, currently the only game that uses everything we wrote above is EVRLOOT and it was funded by a series of investors for more than $ 500,000 in the last fundraising session, and they deserved it because we know how difficult and expensive it is to make a game like this.

We are starting with the integration of the various chains, for now compared to evrloot if we have to make a technical comparison, ours is a game of greater interaction, being an old style game like legend of grimrock, first person dungeon, but it still lacks many features that they have integrated over time, for example like an internal marketplace (essential if the game will have to be independent in the future), dynamic forge and more…

At the same time, AOC already allows some very interesting things in terms of onchain interactions, and everything is described in the document reported above.

Our blockchain developer is Steven Pineda, one of the current members of the rmrk team and inventor of the most important protocols such as erc7508.
We have no problem from the point of view of possible future migrations to soneium therefore, the difference of our game compared to others, or other collections, is that we use equipable 3d nfts, so as things currently stand, these must be as currently happens for moonbeam, viewable and exchangeable on the singular marketplace. No current marketplace, even on soneium, can manage our nfts accurately. One of the things we want to do in the future will be to create a proprietary marketplace within the game, but this goes beyond the request we are currently making here, and it is a superior development that requires a lot of effort.

In any case, we are always open to collaborations, for example in the saga that will arrive on moonbeam we can announce a series of nfts sponsored by the WOOD team, a memecoin that you all know.

Send us the link privately, we would be happy to know more in any case, even if as said we have no problems from that point of view

I admit my ignorance on the costs and work that goes into producing the product you offer… as far as I’m concerned, however, your results are synonymous with reliability, even if I’m not a user of the game, I believe that your work can bring many benefits to the Astar chain, I wish you the opportunity to work, good luck

I’m truly pleased to see this proposal and encouraged to witness the team once again expressing interest in contributing to the Astar ecosystem. That said, I would like to offer a few clarifications and suggestions regarding the funding request.

From what I understand, the direct ask of $30K appears to be a treasury request. If this is the case, the appropriate route would be to submit a formal proposal through the governance process. Alternatively, the team may consider applying to the Unstoppable Community Grants (UCG) Program, which is specifically designed to support early-stage projects.

However, if my interpretation is incorrect and the $30K figure is merely a projected estimate to outline a roadmap contingent on the engagement levels within dApp Staking—such as the number of tokens staked and staker participation—then I appreciate the clarity and would welcome further elaboration.

For context and transparency, it’s worth noting that the Astar Community Council has recently updated the dApp Staking Code of Conduct (link), and there are important compliance considerations to highlight:

Section 2 – Definitions and Terminology:
dApp Staking is not a funding mechanism or charity program. Projects must be self-sustaining regardless of staking rewards. It is intended to support development but should not be relied upon as the primary long-term revenue source. Additional funding, if necessary, should come from other avenues.

Section 5 – Definitions and Scope:
dApp Staking is not a grant program. To qualify, projects must have an active business, a live product or MVP, and sufficient documentation to allow token holders to make informed decisions. Rewards are performance-based, driven by community engagement rather than guaranteed allocations.

For projects in the ideation or pre-MVP phase, or those in need of foundational support, the UCG program remains the most suitable path. It provides up to 17M ASTR over four months, and if the dApp achieves Tier 2 in the dApp Staking program during this period, the grant is concluded early.

I hope this helps clarify the available paths and compliance expectations. I remain supportive of your efforts and look forward to tracking your progress on this proposal.

You’re right in technical terms, let me explain better.

I mentioned the $30,000 costs for a simple reason.
Since we noticed that dappstaking has somehow disappointed the expectations of the foundation due to obvious shortcomings in terms of real development, we tell you in advance what the figure is to be able to finish all the work.
Consider that this figure has been more than exceeded by many teams that have taken advantage of this measure in the last two years and that currently do not even interact with requests for updates.

Now whether it is obtained through dappstaking or through direct funds (I don’t know enough about it) does not matter much, clearly if by joining dapp staking we manage to obtain it, perhaps with help from ucg or I don’t know what else, we are fine with it even extending the time to finish everything.

We would be more inclined to work on milestones, with certain timing and planning, but we do not exclude the dapp staking option.
We would be much more honest in saying: we have reached this amount in staking, we can create our dungeon in 3-4-6 months than sitting there, sharing developments that we would have done anyway and postponing the delivery date indefinitely like everyone has done for more than 2 years.

We have a project, something tangible and usable by the foundation for events of various kinds. The funds are given in many different measures on astar, now I ask you if it is the case to also reward our team, also because I do not see new proposals or new initiatives of this kind on astar.

We do not want to change the rules, we have never shared them, you know, but since they are these we make you a proposal and we do it in a transparent way. The thing that differentiates our project from all those who will apply for direct funding or dapp staking is that it is currently already visible and it is possible to see the work done.

That said, if the suggestion is direct funding, let us know how to do it, we would obviously be more inclined to do this, and we have no problem signing a binding contract as done with moonbeam for the delivery of milestones.

On the other hand, dappstaking if inserted as an additional measure could be what allows us to let everyone play for free without even paying network fees in this case.

In short, beyond everything, we await your advice on how to proceed.

Steve is actually already in the Discord group i referred to and already gave some guidance on best practice for development.

Really impressive that he is on your team btw, he is an innovative developer to say the least. If you guys would support Sonieum on your planned NFT cross chain marketplace then its a no brainer to get you guys onboarded.

Proposal for Astar Network

  1. Treasury Request:
We are requesting a direct grant of $30,000 to support the development of an Astar Network-themed saga within Age of Chronos — a multichain game focused on cross-chain NFT exchange, leveraging the RMRK 2.0 standard.

The project will be executed by SFY Labs and structured around three development milestones, each with an estimated duration of one month. Milestones will be subject to review and approval by the Astar Foundation prior to moving forward.

:pushpin: Proposed Milestones

Milestone 1: Concept & Graphic Design

  • Define the visual style and thematic elements of a custom Astar-themed dungeon.
  • Design four unique playable characters, including concept art and full 3D models.
  • Create a set of equippable NFT items, including asset modeling, rarity classification, and animations.

Milestone 2: Gameplay Development & Crafting Mechanics

  • Develop core dungeon gameplay mechanics, including levels, challenges, and progression systems.
  • Integrate a crafting system allowing players to earn and mint unique NFT items upon dungeon completion.
  • Conduct internal playtesting and gameplay balancing to ensure a fun and engaging experience.

Milestone 3: Blockchain & NFT Integration

  • Develop smart contracts for equippable NFTs on the Astar network.
  • Implement in-game ownership, transferability, and inventory systems.
  • Ensure interoperability with major Web3 marketplaces and wallet providers.
  • Final testing and debugging of smart contract functionality and integration.

:ballot_box_with_ballot: dApp Staking Listing Request

We also request to be listed in Astar’s dApp Staking program, which will enable us to:

  • Support ongoing operational costs such as game server infrastructure and third-party services (e.g., Thirdweb, which currently costs approximately $500/month).
  • Fund a paymaster wallet that will cover gas fees on behalf of players. This will allow for free gameplay experiences (including minting, crafting, and other blockchain interactions), made possible through our integration of Thirdweb’s gasless transaction features.
  • Invest in marketing and community promotion, helping grow both the game and the Astar ecosystem.

Please let us know if it is possible to proceed with this proposal and how to do so in accordance with the current guidelines.
If you have any further questions or require additional information, we are at your full disposal.

As an avid Evrloot player, I urge the Astar community to accept this proposal.

Evrloot is the flagship project on Moonbeam - Steven works on Evrloot as a consultant and knows the RMRK standard better than any dev working in this space.

We need to change the culture of Astar back to what it was in the beginning - lets make this space an attractive place for builders again.

I commend the AOC team for being humble enough to extend an olive branch.

The upside here is enormous - we have the opportunity to create our own Evrloot and the potential for collaboration opportunities are huge.

It’s an exciting time for Astar with the Sonieum integration, but lets not neglect real innovative projects who want to build on Astar home chain.

There is not much dev happening on Astar EVM right now so even if you are sceptical, the risk reward for this opportunity is still value no matter how you analyse it.

Hi guys we discussed a lot about the status of the project in the past I see you have a new plan, not bad, I won’t go into whether or not you are competent or if the design or budget is tight, but I would love to make sure how you plan to repair the mistrust created earlier by moving to another network and stop building on Astar, don’t see it as retaliation, you just can’t go around from network to network without leaving anything in return, after all it’s about the money intended for the community.

Thanks @Vangardem
why do you say that we change networks without leaving anything in return? evidently you have not read what we wrote above and above all you have not tried our game. AoC aspires to be a multichain game, and we have said it from day one, what has been undertaken with moonbeam comes from shared and verified milestones that will lead to the next few weeks to the first launch of the full game post MVP presented a few months ago. Has the same idea been presented to Astar and will it be presented to other networks? we are not just looking for money, we are working in exchange for a finished product that is evident here on astar no one up to now after years of support has managed to give to you. you should do exactly the opposite of what was said, verify, understand what is written in our article and quantify whether what we are stating can be a value for Astar or not. if you think it is not, it will be your legitimate opinion, but judge on some tangible idea, not on ideas based on “impressions”. that said I don’t want to repeat AOC’s story here, we had great, indeed very great reasons to stop (never said to abandon) the development a year ago and go towards those who supported us. Moonbeam will be rewarded for this, our game is currently one of those most cited together with Evrloot when developments on Polkadot regarding gaming are published in the various X posts. The goal is to be able to get to cross-chain exchange thanks to the nature of our nfts. The proposal seems honest and above all it is yet another attempt on our part to reconcile an unpleasant episode for everyone (third attempt). we do not believe that there should be a positive response for this regardless, but we hope that at least TODAY after a failed year for dappstaking and after the mistake made by all of us towards unhealthy attitudes for the ecosystem, a transparent and proactive proposal is at least evaluated on the facts and not on a culture of suspicion.

We don’t see anything about games or supposed games presented here on astar years ago. honestly it’s time to quantify and understand who works and who doesn’t, and it’s clear that in the dotsama ecosystem people know who to look at. Our reference as a strategic goal remains Evrloot, a real web3 game, and we absolutely share their vision on how to create something innovative in this sector.

Hi friend,

Thanks for the proposal.

I’ve questions for you regarding the proposal

1- could you share with us the link with the moonbeam version of the game, i’m interested to see the results of this commonly financed game

2- you request 30k$ in astr paid in 3 settlement upon completion of each 3 milestones. Is that correct?

3- for 30k$ you will produce on Astar EVM one dungeon, four 3D characters and one set of equippable items. Is that correct?

4- will we get access to more dungeons later if the game become popular on astar or every new dungeons creation we be associate to a grant requests such as this one?

5- in millstone 3, why build item Smart contracts on polygon? Is that a typo? Wouldn’t it make more sens to dev the smart contract on astr EVM in order to be able to use astr token for market place (and in game currency if possible)?

Thanks for your time

Hey :waving_hand:

1)Actually there’s an MVP at AgeOfChronos.com

But in the next few weeks we will have the full game ready in moonbeam so you can check all the progress from the MVP and all we have write in the medium article in the game!

  1. yes, we ask for a direct grant support + listing in dappstaking, and we have write for what we will use the funds in both way.

3)nope, we will guarantee a complete dungeon saga, technically the game is set to be an infinite game. So you for this amount will have the same numbers of dungeons that will be present on moonbeam and with dapp staking support you will have each week or each month ( depends on the tier) new dungeons will be added. The work done for this amount is incredible, trust me, the storytelling of the game is open andwe could add new networks and new interactions just for this. It is essentially based on time travel and you will be able to read it when we launch the first saga on moonbeam soon. We have created this type of story that fits perfectly with the multichain development that we want to undertake, and it is important to understand for the narrative that Polkadot is carrying forward, in its most influential exponents, that the collaboration between parachains in the perspective of polkadot 2.0 is the thing that is most important.

  1. nope as We said above we have ask a grant for a complete saga also on astar, so you will have more levels to play! The game approx will end in not less then 1 month, and each dungeon have a mid play time of 30 minutes ( test done on actual moonbeam saga).

  2. yes typo, just correct, thanks

I want to add something that perhaps has not been understood, the future of the game after the first funding will be based on community functions between the various chains, such as the creation of a cross-chain exchange system, a possible proprietary marketplace (since you cannot depend on third-party marketplaces like singular forever, and we explained why it is difficult to index our 3D nfts) and collaborations on the exchange of in-game tokens (we have implemented erc7590 for this, read the medium article)

Hello @SFY_Labs,
I’ll be honest, my feelings are mixed regarding your return to the forum. On one hand, I’m glad to see a team of builders showing interest in developing on Astar again. On the other hand, the hostility or clumsiness in some of your past messages can’t be easily overlooked.

That being said, regarding your funding request, I would be more inclined to support your participation through the UCG program rather than approving a direct grant of $30,000.

Here’s what I’d like to see: AOC joins the UCG program for the next 8 months (with a 4-month renewable period, to be precise). During this time, your team builds and delivers. If, at the end of this period, the game is live, the community is satisfied with your work, and you’ve received less than $30,000 through dApp Staking, then submit a proposal for the remaining amount. I will support you for this proposal.

Thank you for the explanations

that’s cool that the proposal is not limited to one dungeon for this amount.
As mentioned before my wife works in 2D & 3D animation so i’ve a ruff idea of usual budget & efforts involved in this kind of project and 30k$ is quite low.
I suppose this is the result of previous devloppement on Astar + Moonbeam (+ a lot of dedication & passion) which make this possible now.

Bouncing on your reply n°3, what will be the sources of income of the game? a portion of network fee? royalties on items secondary market ?
You’ve mention that game would be a free-to-play so i’m currious about that (especially with the newly established CoC which require that dApp staking should not be the main source of income of the project).
