I don’t usually comment here, so sorry for being a bit late, but it’s nice to see some movement on governance. Hopefully this has a positive affect on the representation and isn’t a gatekeeper.
I’d like to see if this council can focus on getting more governance participation from the community.
Completely observational remark: Sometimes it seems a single, or small group of very large wallet balances, can greatly outweigh collective smaller wallet participants. One place I’ve noticed this is day 1 of a new dApp staking periods. Some dApps have very few stakers but massive amounts of astar flowing in while others have many stakers but small astar amounts staked.
I wonder if this is something that is flowing through in governance voting? and if so, how can this be adjusted for?
The Community Council election concluded on Monday, December 30, 2024, and we are pleased to announce that two members have been elected by ASTR holders:
We are also glad to share that 146 ASTR holders, representing a total of 48 million ASTR, participated in the election. This marks an increase in governance activity and reflects the growing engagement within our community.
To proceed, please share your on-chain addresses and set up your on-chain identity at your earliest convenience.
Once your addresses are confirmed and we’ve collected the necessary information from other participants (core team and ecosystem agents), the Main Council will execute an extrinsic call to update the Community Council.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this process and supported the election!
I’m in the middle of gathering the information and addresses of the other members before proposing to the Main Council the extrinsic call to add you onchain to the Community Council.
Among the ecosystem agents, the two representatives elected internally are @pitcoin777 and @tksarah.
All addresses have been verified with onchain identities.
I will propose the extrinsic call to the Main Council shortly to formally update the Community Council composition. The community will be kept informed here once the extrinsic is executed.
In the meantime, council members are encouraged to review the relevant documentation to familiarize themselves with their responsibilities and the on-chain extrinsic calls they will execute as part of their roles.
Congrats to the new Community Council members! Great to see this process move forward with verified on-chain identities. Looking forward to formalization of the council composition, and the great impact this group will have on governance. Wishing the new members success in their roles!
