Astar zkEVM asynchronous and IRL hackathon

Hello, dear community, fellow ambassadors, and Astar core team!

This time, I am thrilled to present a proposal that can catapult the Astar brand in LatAm. It involves not only sponsoring a hackathon and an Astar hacker house but also a marketing and content creation strategy that will expand the brand among Ethereum developers taking advantage of all the FOMO around the Ethereum Mexico event that will be attended by Vitalik Buterin and other founders of important projects.

TL;DR

Our most recent participation in the largest hackathon ever held in LatAm, ETH Cinco de Mayo, drew significant attention to the Astar zkEVM protocol. Now, I come with a somewhat similar proposal: to sponsor a virtual and in-person hackathon, a Astar house, provide merch, and carry out a “Road to Astar hack” to create educational technical content aimed at any user who wishes to use Astar but focused on the hackathon. It’s that simple but powerful thing that I aim to achieve!

The cross-cutting solution I propose is the sponsorship of the Frutal :grapes:Web House hackathon, an event to be held before Ethereum Mexico, one of the largest events in the Ethereum ecosystem that features the participation of Vitalik Buterin (so the FOMO is really significant in these events). In addition to sponsoring the hackathon, I propose distributing merchandise and organizing a “Road to Astar Hack” focused on creating technical content.

This will provide us with tremendous organic visibility, with the participation of many hackers and projects, and we will onboard new developers to the Astar zkEVM protocol. It will be a hybrid hackathon that allows developers from all over LatAm to participate, which increases our exposure to an international audience.

The event organizing teams (Open Web Academy and Frutero Club) have partnerships with multiple communities and universities in Mexico, and they are also the two strongest developer communities in the Caribbean country. Currently, the hackathon is still in the process of brand creation and other preparations, but they are already closing negotiations with several protocols (including us, Astar Network).

Here is the document with all the details of the proposal, the budget, the milestones, real data, important links, and more:

Thank you for your excellent proposals each and every time. It’s detailed and very easy to follow.
It looks like Astar Evolution is progressing in terms of timing and I fully support this proposal.

I have a couple of points that concern me, and I would be glad if you could answer just those.

  1. I understand that you are going to create various contents along with the hackathon, is the cost of this correct at 0?
  2. I understand that you have already completed some negotiations with hackathon protocols, including Astar, but am I correct in my interpretation that you have already spoken with the Astar Foundation and are currently seeking a budget here?

Great idea! I’m always a fan of hackathons, as they often produce projects that run on zkEVM. If this proposal goes through, which I believe it will, I would love to see the pitches and discuss the projects here after the hackathon. Additionally, we could explore more topics, such as what types of dApps participants could build and what we need on zkEVM. If we have any ideas, let’s share them!

Hi, @you425, I am very happy that you have reviewed the proposal and received your comments, you have always been very punctual and that pleases me.

Answering your questions:

Yes, I will create a series of 12 tutorial videos and 6 GitHub technical guides to help hackers develop their applications during the hackathon. In addition to that, I will provide technical support and mentoring before, during and after the hackathon. The cost of all this is 0, I will charge absolutely nothing for providing my effort in this event, mainly what I am looking for is to make a great event for Astar.

Actually no, I have not discussed this with the Astar foundation. I told and asked to my great friend @0xRamz for advice and he exposed it during the last ambassadors call but it didn’t happen anymore, so I have come here to the community treasury.

I strongly support your thoughts my friend, I am also a fan of hackathons, I have participated in ETHGlobal hackathons that literally change my life, in many ways.

In this case I want hackathons to enter the Astar ecosystem and stay, I want to see more projects in Astar zkEVM and much more.

Thanks for your support!

Thank you for the clear and detailed proposals. I fully support the progress and timing of the Astar Evolution initiative!

Update on the hackathon:

The launch of the hackathon and the graphic materials of the event have been made public, here the post: x.com

Also, we already have Luma registration for the event! Now the goal is to achieve a minimum registration amount of 300 people, we are working on the strong diffusion of the event! Frutal 🍇 Web House @ ETH México · Luma

That’s a great start. Thank you very much for the contribution. Anyway, I’m rooting for you. =)

I’ve read through this proposal and I’m impressed by the thorough planning and potential impact.

This hackathon seems like a great opportunity to expand Astar’s presence in Latin America and engage with new developers.

I fully support this initiative. Looking forward to seeing the results!

Nice. Would be great if you could share the people who have registred after you close it

Hello, dear community and fellow ambassadors and core team members.

Following the rules of our governance model and having passed the 7 days of discussion, I have taken the trouble to create the vote for the proposal in Townhall. I kindly ask you to deposit your opinions in the vote.

Thank you very much!

I think we should definitely be here, so I support it. I will vote yes in the vote.

Can we get the data of the participant profiles from somewhere?
The reason I’m asking this;
Is Solidity the majority of the participants? Cairo? I would like to know if they use Move language.
If the majority is Solidity, I am sure this event will be very useful for us.

Of course you can, mate! Here is our unique registration link for you to see more information about it: Frutal 🍇 Web House @ ETH México · Luma

During the hackathon we will be using Solidity only, because most of the sponsors are EVM compatible.

Soon we will be working on Taikai, the platform that will allow us to manage the projects and evaluate them, once we are there, I will come back to this post to share the link.
