Thx Marco for the update! Excited to see the progress with GameDAO, in particular the effort on the integration with Astar, upcoming testnet configurations. Looking forward to the draft protocol and to see the implementation of the GAME token. You keep pushing on, and let’s kick off those technical discussions with the Astar devs-happy to support where I can!
Thank you for the report.
Looks good progress. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comprehensive update, Marco! It’s great to see the technical developments and progress across the board.

Graph Services: You mentioned that graph services are missing and that the squid graph for dApp staking doesn’t seem to work well. Could you share more details on the specific issues you’re facing?
-
Testnet and Apps: It’s exciting to hear that the testnet is active and you’re considering configuring the apps for it. Will there be any specific features or contracts available for testing?
Nice to see Game DAO continuing with the development but I’m a little bit worrired about users’attraction. Twitter account is not that active and even if we bring GAME token on Astar I cannot understand the utility and future usage of it.
I understand building is not easy at all but I would like to see a detailed short term roadmap Also because we are getting closer to the Voting period and it may be a good way to attract new gamers/stakers.
Thank you for the roadmap update. If I may, I’d like to ask a few additional questions:
-
In terms of business, what numerical targets has the team set?
-
What are the details of the project’s revenue and costs?
Hi @2075,
This is a kind reminder for the October monthly progress report.
It seems there are several changes and/or modifications on the webpage, so I am highly looking forward to the latest updates / development.
1. dApp Demo on Testnet:
• Could you provide a live demo or a testnet link where we can explore the current functionalities, especially the account section and any partially active features? A working demo would help us get a practical sense of the dApp’s current state.
2. Milestones and Roadmap Clarification:
• Can you share more details or documentation regarding the upcoming roadmap items, particularly the blueprints for cross-compatibility (xcm <> ink <> evm) and the proxy/upgradability prototype? Any specifics here would help us better understand your progress on these complex features.
3. Integration of dApp Staking Information:
• Regarding the integration of staking information and GAME token balance, can you elaborate on the technical approach or expected timeline for making this visible on the dApp? Having a clearer picture of this integration would showcase progress towards community-facing features.
4. Graph Service Status:
• Since graph services are currently missing and appear to be a key focus, could you provide more details on your timeline for deploying these services? Also, any specific blockers or technical assistance you might need from Astar’s team for setting up the graph would be helpful.
5. Operational Expenses for dApp Staking Rewards:
• Could you clarify how the dApp staking rewards spent on operational expenses have directly supported the technical and product development? Specifics on these expenditures will help demonstrate alignment with UCG’s objectives.
6. Community and Partnership Growth:
• Are there any upcoming partnerships or collaborations with game studios that you can share details about? Insight into these initiatives could illustrate your commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem around the dApp.
7. Published Documentation and Reports:
• Could you share links or an outline of any documentation and reports currently available on the GitHub repository? This would allow us to review the technical and operational documentation as it’s published.
Thanks for this update and this transparency. Great job!
About your issue with the graph indexer, I guess the graph has not been updated with the last changes. But update it with the last events should not be too challenging. You can find all events here: Astar/pallets/dapp-staking/src/lib.rs at master · AstarNetwork/Astar · GitHub
Hey @GuiGou
Thanks for the feedback, our update info is still in progress, but we could resolve the issues with the graph repo and added it to our general gamedao graph containing not only the graph for gamedao dappstaking on Astar but also from our other networks. I will update regarding the staking dashboard in our general monthly update.
Thanks for your support!
GameDAO UCG Update 03
Thank you to all contributors supporting GameDAO via Astar DappStaking. This gives us as a small team more confidence (and capacity) to build and invest in this eco.
Technical developments and updates
Over the last weeks we have completed our Astar testnet setup, the ongoing developments will become visible on both gamedao.app and astar.gamedao.app, where the latter will feature an interactive staking dashboard to show contributors and stakers ongoing reward programs and achievements.
Furthermore, the mentioned issues with the graph have been resolved, we are running now a multichain graph with indexed data from various networks including Astar.
On the frontend side we have to continue our refactoring, as we are buiding various sites and apps from our haiku codebase. This means various core bits from the individual apps migrate to global packages in the repo to reduce development debt.
Marketing and communication updates
There are no updates on the marketing side as we are focused on releasing version one of the contracts and Astar specific dashboard.
Updates on community, partnerships and collaborations
-
We have created a proposal to list $GAME token on Astar L1. This proposal passed and we will be able to move $GAME between Asset Hub, Astar L1 and Hydration.net, where we set up a small pool.
-
We keep on working with existing and new partners and game studios to motivate new builds on Astar L1 and Soneium.
dApp Staking rewards spent and reason for spending and uses
We have spent all received rewards for operational expenses of the company.
Status of UCG milestones
Draft for porting the protocols was published in update 01.
August “setup”: driving the roadmap for the complete protocol and sales funnel
September “blueprints”
October infrastructure, listing on Astar L1
- proposal to list $GAME passed
- testnet, graph, faucet
- xcm <> ink <> evm interaction → This needs more info from e.g. Astar dev team
→ November "validation”
Roadmap for next month
Keep going as suggested in our roadmap, initiate discussion with technical people on Astar.
-
Due to infrastructure and frontend work we had to slow down on the protocol developments. Next stop is the deployment of an initial ink version potentially by end of November with UI integration.
-
Transfer AssetHub <> Astar L1 <> Hydration
-
Integrate into dapp:
- show GAME balance(s)
- show staking information and accumulated GAME rewards
- start a collective with GAME
Current blockers or problems that the team is facing
At the current point, there are no blockers. We are fixing the frontend stack to be ready for the next steps, testing out interaction between native pallets, ink contracts communicating with native pallets and EVM contracts communicating with both, pallets and ink contracts.
From the update, it seems that the revenue generated from dApp staking has been allocated primarily towards operational expenses and marketing activities. While I understand that these areas are important for any project’s growth, I believe that the primary focus of the dApp staking rewards should be on developing new ideas and use cases that bring tangible value to the Astar ecosystem, especially for the $ASTAR token and Soneium.
The Astar UCG program is designed to support developers in building decentralized applications that enhance the network’s utility and adoption. Allocating more resources towards technical development and innovative solutions would better align with the goals of the program and benefit the community as a whole.
I would like to encourage the GameDAO team to:
• Provide more detailed updates on the progress of dApp development and how it contributes to the ecosystem.
• Consider reallocating a portion of the staking rewards towards initiatives that directly enhance the functionality and use cases of $ASTAR and Soneium.
• Increase transparency regarding the expenditure of staking rewards to ensure they are being used effectively.
By focusing on these areas, I believe we can ensure that the dApp staking rewards are utilized in a way that maximizes value for all stakeholders in the Astar network.
Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to constructive discussions on how we can collectively improve the ecosystem.
Thank you very much for the updated information. If I may ask a couple of follow-up questions:
-
I understand that the team is currently focusing on the technical aspects, while marketing and communication have temporarily taken a lower priority. Looking ahead, what are the team’s plans for promotion and communication?
-
Regarding using rewards as expenses, could you please provide more information or additional details about this? This would help ensure we have the same understanding of this matter.
Great to see the progress on the testnet setup and the integration of multichain graphs! The interactive staking dashboard sounds promising for community engagement.
When can the community expect the first version of the ink-based protocol to go live?
Hey @Matt
The draft for the dashboard is live on https://astar.gamedao.app, the respective integration with ink and visualising it depends also on the GAME integration on Astar L1. So expecting it during the next weeks.
Meanwhile the protocol port itself is already progressing and will be updated shortly on Github, will post here whenever that took place.
Cheers,
Marco
Why are you only responding to Matt and disregarding the rest of the community?
Hey @WakeUp
Nobody is disregarding anything. I understand discussing projects in depth is not only interesting but also helps in gaining transparency.
We are hyperfocussed building out what we outlined and therefore can only communicate substantial updates for the coming weeks.
Some of the questions cannot be answered in a few lines. Therefore this requires preparation and results in your topics of interest being discussed further within the next compiled update.
Personally I think we are relatively transparent considering limited resources, maybe I am wrong and we should spend more time on reporting and less on building.
By design, our approach merges accountability with community support to create strong products in a legal and regulatory compliant framework, including legal token issuance and governance. Maybe this quality of a legal DAO framework needs further clarification.
We are also enabling the Astar community through dapp staking, to take part in governance and to utilise protocols: Dapp staking is currently the only way to get GAME token.
Beyond this we are taking care of finding good game projects to produce, publish and distribute.
Still a lot to get done, so lets stay on focus
Marco
Looking forward to see this more build out.
Let’s build something great together and looking forward to more updates from GameDAO.
Hi @2075!
The community is waiting for GameDAO’s last report which was due 3 days ago. Please post here once ready.
Meanwhile, we will be unstaking the 17M ASTR. You may post another topic forum and create a proposal via onchain governance if you wish to extend.
Dear all,
thanks for the UCG support so far, the first round just came to an end . It helped us a lot to get moving on Astar and EVM. While the UCG is currently more of a financial kickstart, we think it can be facilitated more, both ways, also giving the Astar builders and community some more room to support:
- Builders in Astar could connect with each other, Astar could facilitate
- Community could contribute to projects where they see less capacity, Astar Ambassadors could facilitate
- Timeframe could be more transparent, maybe a countdown?
Updates
At the current point, the protocol migration is still in progress and we are preparing the initial release of the GAME staking rewards. To make this fair, we have come up with a draft based on the following assumptions:
- drop must account for all accounts staking
- drop must account for restaking
- drop must ease the gap between small and big cap stakers
- drop should incentivise early contributors per period
- drop should incentivise continuous staking across periods
The result of this led to two developments:
- reward calculator (Spreadsheet)
- reward dashboard (Stakeboard)
Spreadsheet
This spreadsheet currently reflects a linear staking reward, the curve bound is not ready yet, but the curves are added at the bottom to show what we are doing:
- Sigmoid based curve to have higher rewards in the beginning, progressively declining and easing out towards the end of a period
- Balancer curve to ease the difference between small and big cap stakers
Stakeboard
The stakeboard is a tool to reflect stakers and their estimated rewards, based on the curves. While building, we saw other Astar projects potentially interested, so we generalised it a bit and the curves can become parameters which projects may update themselves, hosted as json on ipfs:
At the moment it cannot do much, users can select from the top dropdown their dapp of interest and introspect stakers. Next step is:
- get Astar community feedback
- calculate rewards based on curve, eras, duration, restaking
- move reward params to ipfs and enable other teams to register their curves
- claim rewards function
Test the latest stage here: https://astar.gamedao.app
Protocol Migration
The current state of protocol migration is coming along with some refactoring and can be found on the github: https://github.com/gamedaoco/gamedao-astar/tree/main/pkg/gamedao/
. This week the initial version to create guilds on chain will be deployed to testnet and wired to the ui on astar.gamedao.app.
Token
Estimated start of GAME token distribution is January, 2025. Until then we need to:
- complete testing on Astar based on the xcm listing protocol in the Astar docs
- move 5M GAME to our astar safe to wait for distribution
- add claim functionality to Stakeboard
Project Marketing
We made some smaller efforts with communicating on Twitter/X, Discord, Linkedin to reach potential supporters for Astar DAppstaking. Currently the results are modest. If interested, we can share some analytics below.
Games
Our discussion with some indie games looking to build with us as publisher, producer, distributor are moving along. We will report back as soon as ink is dry.
Final Remarks
We would welcome to work further with the Astar community, if there is interest. Our plan currently is to continue building on Astar L1 based on the ink protocol and the initial version of the Astar specific frontend.
Our takeaway for now is, that our optimistic time assumptions are valid but hard to achieve if we cannot generate more interaction with the community beyond reporting.
If you have more questions at this point, feel free to add them below. I will also prepare a more detailed post about Stakeboard and the eventual UCG follow up application, lets see!
Thanks again for your trust!
Marco @ GameDAO
This update is really a great show of progress with clear planning. Reward tools and Stakeboard are promising steps to improve transparency and fairness. Engaging the Astar community for feedback and broadening project tools are good moves.
The timeline of token distribution and efforts to connect with indie games are practical, although community interaction might have strengthened the project more. In general, a solid update with room to grow.
