We have already updated the information on the dapp staking page to reflect parts of the roadmap, including the announcement of our token rewards program, where we dedicate 5% of our total supply to accelerate on Astar.

We have also started to announce on socials to attract more gaming related people.

We have also added one game production to the objectives.

More comprehensive information will follow over the next weeks, velocity would increase of course with more measurable conviction by the community.

Please find our initial updates below.

GameDAO is a community powered video games publisher, enabling game creators to fund, co create and distribute their game.

It provides support along the lifecycle of a game production and enables tokenised governance and ownership of video game ip and assets.

High level Objectives

In the current stage of the project, GameDAO will focus on the following topics:

  • Migrate and extend GameDAO Protocol to WASM/EVM
  • List GAME token on Astar (currently available on AssetHub, Hydration and Zero)

  • Enable GAME staking rewards for dapp stakers: GameDAO is dedicating, 5% of the currently possible total GAME supply, 5_000_000 GAME token to reward early stage dapp stakers on Astar, based on the staking amount and tier achieved. Details will be announced and we will reward all contributions made from the first day of UCG, therefore giving back to the community treasury as well.

  • Build up a creative micro community of aficionados at the intersection of video games, creative work and Astar
  • Enable the discovery and curation of new games for GAME token holders

  • Produce and release one game with GameDAO as a publisher in the Astar ecosystem

Thank you for the Figma. I learned a lot from it. If I may, I’d like to ask a few more questions.

  1. In terms of numerical goals, such as the number of users or transactions, what targets has the team set?

  2. The GameFi trend has significantly decreased. How does the team view the opportunities and challenges arising from this situation?

Great questions.

The general approach is to not rely too much on “GameFi” and related ponzinomics but to onboard real games with smart tokenomics underneath. GameDAO is also embracing regulatory, therefore the goal is to have most projects on the bright side of independent gaming. E.g. indie games running on steam, playstation, switch instead of token mlm in a browser.

  • The player experience must always be the top priority.
  • Tokenomics, like commercialisation of assets, underneath can influence gameplay but ideally both can coexist without.

Simply funding through a token curation and conviction mechanism is not really a business model. It can be a filter to keep away unwanted business models, though.

If the treasury ( liquid and locked ) exceeds insignificance, you gain the opportunity to directly invest, with the conviction gained through the community.

This in turn mitigates investment risk and results in funded IP bringing

  • rev share
  • license fees
  • content + asset fees

to the treasury.

So the opportunity for the community is, to take part in governance, to amplify their favourite models and participate in the success.

Next thing for us is to bring some of our partners with existing xp/rep in gaming and release their game with us. So we produce the game with them and improve capital situation and amplify their reach in the best case.

Thank you for the additional explanation. I have a much clearer picture now. If I may, I’d like to ask a few more questions.

Regarding rev share / license fees / content + asset fees, could you explain the plans in more detail? What are the specifics? Thank you very much. =)

I cannot share specifics like e.g. rev share and license fees are negotiable case by case.

e.g. low maturity and bigger invest usually results in gigher rev share, while a pretty mich ready product may bring lower rev share but eventually lower risk and bigger audience to the treasury.

tx fees and/or commissions are to be defined when the store front is up and running.

Hi @2075 hope things go well for achieving your milestones.
First of all, thanks for considering the suggestion, sharing the GAME token rewards announcement on the dAppstaking portal.

This might be too late to ask, but I would like to understand GameDAO further, so let me ask some basic questions. There might be more questions along the way, but let me share four among then first.

  1. Currently, GameDao is in the half way of the UCG program. What milestones are achieved and what to be the right next milestones to be accomplished before the end of the UCG program?

  2. In the roadmap shareind via Figma, it is rather vague for me to understand GameDAO. There is 1 milestone explained, and it seems all the works to be done in the roadmap seems not feasible / doable for one or two man power. Can you share some details for your team?

  3. Again, in regard to the roadmap. There are three categories: protocol, frontend, and publishing. Can you share the current progress on each of them?

  • Protocol: Deploy upgradable GameDAO core Wasm contact on Astar L1
  • Frontend: Deploy first version of frontend to gamedao.app
  • Publishing: Onboard one game project to the protocol
  1. On the Instagram (@gamedao) • Instagram photos and videos, I am not sure if we can find any information or any post there yet. Having an account merely open seems not a good idea, so it might be better to focus only selected social media platforms, mostly Twitter and/or Telegram, and Discord.

Thanks for keeping up interest in GameDAO and what we are working on :slight_smile:

The milestones announced on the project page are by nature way bigger than what can be achieved with the current UCG alone. Therefore we have worked out the incentive program to dedicate the amount of 5m GAME token to the community supporting this project, to possibly increase the amount being staked.

As suggested in our initial UCG discussion, the goal of this phase of UCG would be to set up basics needed to get started with implementing what was outlined in our previous documentation and specifically, what you referenced, in the project page on dapp staking.

Your assumption is correct, with tier 4 or even tier 3 and 1-2 people alone it would not be feasible to build everything mentioned in the documents we have shown, we need more projects and funding to scale up in the Astar eco.

For the time being we are working on protocol (migration), publishing (contracts) and production (games) topics as they fit and outlined. If we are able to get to tier 2, we can allocate more funds to a dedicated team and speed up.

Next stop is, to activate the Astar specific GameDAO dapp and the staking dashboard, this will be the first real integration point, also working with the initial wasm contract.

Social media will be activated based on project needs, e.g. with the first games onboarded, all channels will be active.

I am not sure about the duration of the UCG, if it will be in sync with the periods or if it will end together with the current one? Eventually a good idea for us, to apply for an extension.

Hi @2075 thanks for the quick response! It would be much appreciated for the readers and community members those who are interested to follow if the responses can be followed corresponding to the each point rather than a general and rather vague answer.

Especially, it would be good to know the current progress compared to the initial roadmap you have shared as follows:

On top of the above four questions, I looked at things (except for the Discord or TG) publicly accessible , and I am curious if there is anything tangible to see the current development, as

  • The latest article is 2023 March on the blog.
  • The website is a single page.
  • The docs does not mention anything about Astar Network yet and other contents could have had deeper information/details.
  • Even after having an account on Zero as described in From DAO to Campaign, the first DAO example is not accessible as the page does not exist anymore, and the latest change on this subpage was about a year ago.
  • Github in general not really active. Especially for GameDAO Astar, very small (close to no) development commitment since its init commit about three month ago from the time of writing this message.

Please correct me if any and feel free to share any latest information / news.

I am happy you found the time to explore our existing materials, nice.

I think we are quite transparent but expectations have to be managed in regards to the purchase power of our project at the current point in time.

While the proposal for UCG effectively was made and written for starting in July (actually not considering the 4 month cycle, afaik), effectively we have started to work on things, when the voting went through, which seems logical to me but should be emphasized, it seems.

Regarding blog, website, docs and github, there is for sure content which does not reflect the current state anymore and needs an update. Of course you cannot deliver like a 20 people team with 2 people anymore, therefore the updates will follow when there is new developments online.

The substrate based development frontend can be reached at https://gamedao.app. As many things need to be rebuilt for evm “on the fly”, especially the graph, which we make extensive use of, most navigation is disabled but will be reactivated when the staking dashboard will go live.

Again, it would be great to see your responses to each point, rather than a general and high level one. I think this is extremely crucial for the community members to evaluate the progress made from GameDAO over the course of the UCG program. For now, I am afraid to say that I am not sure if I can find any clear and tangible working progress. I have no doubt about the transparency; however, further clarification seems necessary in regard to the goals/milestones to be accomplished with the UCG program.

From your statement, I assume GameDAO is a two person team. Then I am not sure if all the milestones shared above are doable for a team of two people. So it is also then very important to set the clear milestones achievable under your available manpower.

Therefore, again, please consider providing separate status for the questions so that we both are mutually constructive for the ecosystem growth.

For this one, I am not sure I fully understand, so it would be great if you can elaborate more on this regard. What do you mean by the staking dashboard? If you mention EVM, is it on Minato or is it on Astar EVM (L1)? If Astar EVM is the target network, then would you be able to share the current progress on ‘the protocol 1 – Deploy upgradable GameDAO core Wasm contract on Astar L1’ with some numbers like 50% is done with X features and Y are still in progress, etc.

If it takes too much time and resource than what was expected when applying for the grants, then perhaps sharing the blocking issues would be very much appreciated.

Also, please share any txs executed from the rewards, if any, according to the requirements in the UCG monthly reports (see UCG v2: Making Unstoppable Community Grants attractive again).

What I am saying is, that working with more people different things are achievable and this obviously comes at a price.

As @pithecus mentions, it is important to constantly report on the progress of the application.

It concerns me a bit that the UX (the website) is empty, it doesn’t show me any information, but as you mention, you are working on other areas of the application.

Just keep in mind that the time you spend on the program is progressing and showing the results is of utmost importance.

:gear: Technical developments and updates

Our current dapp lives in a monorepo (GitHub - gamedaoco/gamedao-haiku: GameDAO Apps), we run build pipelines, graph services, a docker swarm for test environments and more. On https://gamedao.app users can sign in and connect with Polkadot compatible wallets and Discord, the apps are deactivated, as the parachain lease will end in a while and the ink based contracts are not live yet. Furthermore, graph services are missing. Our test net is active, therefore we are considering to configure the existing apps for it to let the community have a glimpse. Account section is active, though. Main repo for Astar specific artefacts is GitHub - gamedaoco/gamedao-astar: astar port of gamedao, featuring ink and evm

:mega: Marketing and communication updates

No big updates at this point, we have visited conferences and continuously talk to other builders in other ecosystems to increase awareness. GameDAO is known to some, expanding and building on Astar for European builders a new idea.

We have allocated five percent of the total GAME token pool to activate the community to stake on GameDAO dapp. We believe this to be a crucial step to have early stage users which can contribute to governance and bring new projects.

We are working with existing and new partners and game studios to motivate new builds on Astar. At this point, web3 interested teams look at other L2 or are interested in Soneium — like us.

:money_with_wings: dApp Staking rewards spent and reason for spending and uses

We have spent all received rewards for operational expenses of the company.

:date: Status of UCG milestones

Draft for porting the protocols was published in update 01.

:white_check_mark: August “setup”: driving the roadmap for the complete protocol and sales funnel

  • xcm <> ink <> evm interaction → This needs more info from e.g. Astar dev team
  • proxy / upgradability → Prototype exists

  • (public) discussion of blueprints and protocols → prior to public discussion we need to publish our draft protocols, this will consume the remaining October and become visible in the repos and eventually on testnet.

:mechanical_arm: Roadmap for next month

Keep going as suggested in our roadmap, initiate discussion with technical people on Astar.

  • Proposal to list GAME on Astar
  • Transfer AssetHub <> Astar L1 <> Hydration
  • Integrate into dapp:
    • show GAME balance
    • show staking information and accumulated GAME rewards
    • start a collective with GAME

:ninja: Current blockers or problems that the team is facing

At the current point, there are no blockers but setting up the whole dapp stack for Astar L1 requires additional steps, like building out a subgraph and testing out interaction between native pallets, ink contracts communicating with native pallets and EVM contracts communicating with both, pallets and ink contracts.

At this point we did not have knowingly access to technical people from Astar to discuss existing implementations, like the squid graph for dapp staking, which does not seem to work well over here, so potentially we will rebuild one.

We will keep you posted with further updates, especially when the graph is up, this will ease frontend artefacts to be visible as well.

We are also publishing reports and documentation in the above mentioned gamedao astar repository on github.
