Grabber - dApp staking application

Hello Astar community! I’m Sharif Karmo, CEO of Grabber, and I’m thrilled to share our unique solution for building and strengthening communities for dApps and Astar network in general by providing effective and precise incentivization for skilled, motivated and contributing users. Grabber will help adoption of dApps and ultimately drive growth to the Network by attracting more users to the Astar. Additionally, Grabber’s ability to analyze large amounts of data will help identify new market opportunities, leading to increased revenue for developers and users alike.

With this proposal, our intention is to provide information and insight into our product which can continuously bring value to the Astar ecosystem. We ask you to review it and consider us for listing as a dApp in the Astar portal

0. Grabber GOAL
Our goal is to become the premier tool for incentivizing users on dApps based on Astar. We recognize the growing regulatory scrutiny of public sales and acknowledge that attracting active users to dApps on Astar is a challenge for many ecosystem projects.
To help address this issue, we propose that dApp developers use Grabber’s events as an incentivization tool. Our “perpetual Claim Events” are available to any ecosystem project that wishes to allocate rewards for users, such as roles in Discord, participation in the Ambassador program, or the distribution of native project tokens equivalent to $500 per month. Our pilots have demonstrated that this approach can attract hundreds of users per month for each dApp with minimal cost to the project.
Additionally, we offer to perform the initial distribution of tokens for any project that desires to do so. We also propose using a portion of the revenue gained from dApp-stacking to fund the marketing of this distribution.

1. EVM Ecosystems Thrive on Polkadot.

The growth of EVM ecosystems on Polkadot is making a significant impact on the entire Polkadot ecosystem. Astar is leading the charge by offering unique features and unparalleled tooling for both users and dApps, combining the strengths of EVM and Substrate into one network. This innovative approach sets Astar apart and ensures sustainable growth, making the inflow of new users a sustainable model.

2. The incentivization problem and Grabber’s solution

Incentivizing users with ready-to-use on-chain tokens should be an effective tool for driving real on-chain activity. However, the “spray and pray” model is no longer enough, as it often leads to a token flipping snowball. Snowball in this case is a rapidly cascading chain of token drops (flipping) that can result in an exponential increase in price pressure. It often starts with a few people spontaneously flipping their tokens, either by coincidence or on purpose. If enough short-term flippers get involved, the price pressure continues to rise. This can lead even loyal users to drop their tokens if the price falls significantly.

Rewarding low-motivated users wallets poses two major risks:

  • Increased chances of creating a token flipping snowball.
  • Greater risk of amplifying the snowball effect of flipping due to decreased liquidity.

This is why token distribution through unmotivated airdrops can be harmful to the market position of a dApp. To mitigate these risks, it’s important to minimize the amount of liquidity in the hands of flippers and reduce the chances of a “snowball” of flipping.

This issue is not limited to airdrops and can also occur with other token distribution methods such as sales, retrodrops, and quests. The problem with these methods is that they do not take into account user behavior. But how to conduct the incentivization effectively, then?

Grabber itself uses the idea to target those who meet the following criteria:

** Relevant experience with target tokens.* The user should have experience or a strong interest in using the tokens or waiting for the opportunity to do so. For example, new liquidity dApps can target users with LIDO experience, gaming dApps can target users with gaming experience, etc.

** Non-flipper.* The user should have a low-to-zero tendency to flip the token

** Loyal ecosystem user.* The user should already have experience in the target ecosystem and a commitment to improving it.

** Committed.* Low-motivated feature holders should be cutted from distribution. Best users should be interested in researching new systems and creating onchain activity

Users that meet these criteria pose a significantly lower risk of creating a token flipping snowball.

Grabber provides solutions and tools to set an effective, targeted incentivization by:

  1. Scoring users’ activity and providing crucial information for dApps or Astar.
  2. Verifying user commitment.
  3. Implementing additional security measures to prevent fraudulent actions.

3. Grabber claimpad solution and How it works

Grabber is a claim pad where “claiming events” take place. During these time-framed events, users receive token allocations based on their activity. The flow of Grabber’s "claiming events’’ is similar to that of “grants”. To participate, users first apply to get onto the initial whitelist. Grabber then scores users’ experience of participants by analyzing on-chain data. Based on the analysis, dApps approve allocations for users with relevant experience. Next, users confirm their participation and are presented with a vesting schedule.

Users can only claim (withdraw) their tokens once, either waiting until the end of the vesting period to receive a full 100% of tokens or withdrawing a lesser percentage earlier.

4. Distribution event flow

Hypothetical use-case:
A new liquid staking dApp startup on the Astar parachain aims to onboard users with high potential to provide liquidity for the platform. Grabber suggests incentivizing users with experience in LIDO liquid staking dApp on EVM as they are familiar with the liquid staking flow and use-case of these types of dApps and experience in long-term staking.

5. Interface samples

dApp interface provides seamless experience on laptop and mobile. It also helps to provide an additional level of security to the whole claim event.

DApp “Back office” and “event” UX

  • DApp creates an event and provides all necessary info to Grabber through our “back office”.

|422x875.4545004367828

  • dApp produces a smart-contract through Grabber factory on the relevant L1.

User UX:

  • Users apply for the claim. To apply, they bind their source wallet (DOT) and their distribution wallet (Smart-contract based parachain wallet/EVM wallet). Grabber’s system aggregates user-activity and proposes to save it on-chain. (in the smart-contract based parachain).

  • Grabber front-end already supports major Polkadot/EVM wallets, detects extensions and helps these wallets receive new users. (Laptop/Mobile)

  • Users join the claim by interacting with a smart-contract, which records their registration marks (and their wallet) on-chain.

  • Users confirm their allocations.

  • After confirmation, users gain access to the claiming options (vesting schedule)

  • Users can only claim their tokens once!

6. Team

Grabber has a strong team with a solid Astar traction. Main research performed by Grabber’s team was focused on interconnecting separated parachain communities. This is a place where Polkadot dApp developers can recruit new users, and the community can join interesting projects. Founder & CEO of Grabber is Sharif Karmo – founder of GetShopTV, the largest connected TV company in Eastern Europe. Sharif’s Twitter

Technological stack: Rust, React, Go, Python, Redux, Typescript.

Our team works a lot on the problem of segmentation of Polkadot’s community.

7. Stakeholders benefits

  • Astar dApps’ growth: Ability to bring most skilled and commitment-based members with relevant experience to create on-chain activity.
  • Astar: Ecosystems’ growth. Access to experienced users can stimulate new dApps to come into ecosystems.
  • Community: benefits from growing experience and utilizing ecosystem experience.
  • Polkadot community: enriched new users. Nowadays native chain and substrate-based parachain are hard to dive from each other due to the technical peculiarities (wallet systems, coins, token structure, and core dApps). Astar Evm-centric ecosystem is the best way to onboard users into the Polkadot.

Given the nature of the tool and service, and their past history with two campaigns (Algem and Astar), Grabber would make a great project to be listed as a dApp in the staking portal. In my personal experience with the team, they have delivered upon every task put forth. Not only are they professional, but the attention to detail in the information they provide is impressive. Nik, Sharif and the rest of the team created a tool that gives very thorough insight and data about participating users, and in turn it helps with strategizing and finding ways to engage and acquire users.

Overall I see Grabber being a resourceful tool for ecosystem projects and Astar as well. I fully support this proposal and look forward to the many Grabber campaigns in the future.

I think theres certain perspective that should be considered. Similar to @Gunit31 with Algem, I worked one on one with Grabber. Surprisingly, the first Astar Grabber campaign rewarded a lot of solid Astar users - meaning a majority of them were staking on multiple dapps. The service and attention they have with collaborative teams is valuable as they can help with figuring out how to attract users to the teams platform. Something we all know is hard.

Plus, the “airdrop” isnt simply a simple one. Vesting was added so the user had to technically wait 4 weeks to actually get full amount, this leads to holding and possible exploration of the space as they wait. In addition they can only claim once over those 4 weeks. If they claimed earlier they would not get full amount.

What im trying to convey is that this isnt simply a airdrop mechanism but its a service that leads to gathering of valuable data for teams like Astar and Algem. We now know who are whales, who are committed users, who are interested to use products, their emails and socials, and more. This data can be used in many ways to improve campaigns and get users new and old to use dapps.

Absolutely! There are still many exciting things that can be done in the ecosystem.

Hello everyone

I’m G’, co-founder of Algem, the leading liquid staking protocol on Astar Network EVM.

Algem was one of the first projects to collaborate and work with Grabber on a token distribution event for our native ALGM token and I think it can be good for everyone here to hear our experience.

Algem and Grabber ran a campaign in November to distribute ALGM tokens to the community using Grabber’s solution.
Grabber collected a lot of participants on-chain data on Astar Network but also on many EVM chains and, based on our criteria, they were able to give us a list of eligible potential users among the participants (after eliminating known airdrop hunters).
For our part, we selected the final list based on several criteria that were important to us and that we felt would fit the persona of the perfect Algem users. The criteria were such as gas costs spent, use of different protocols (Lido, Uniswap, AAVE etc), number of tx, dApp Staking, popular smart-contracts used, NFT activity of the participant’s address. We had more than 2500 participants, mostly airdrop hunters, but thanks to Grabber’s work and flexibility to our requests, we were able to select about 500 participants who deserve to receive our token.

Grabber has been very cooperative and helpful with our various requests. He was always helpful and made sure our needs were met. As a team, we are very happy with the work Grabber did for us and hope other teams will try their solution as I can confirm that it works.

I am attaching a screenshot as an example of the analysis system they made for Algem.

I hope my post can help our community better understand the value Grabber can bring to our ecosystem.

I, personally, support this application.

I think it would be great to score user activity and airdrop accordingly. I think it would be difficult to determine the scoring criteria.

That sounds good, forwarding to come true it
