Let's try again: Age Of Chronos proposal

thank you :folded_hands:

Just to confirm — will you only deploy your contracts on Astar if the treasury proposal is approved?

If so, it’s important to note that one of the key requirements for joining dApp Staking is to have a live product already deployed on Astar before applying. If that’s not the case yet, then it’s too early to apply for dApp Staking.

I’d suggest the following process to align with the guidelines:

  1. Get your treasury proposal approved
  2. Deploy your contracts on Astar L1
  3. Apply for dApp Staking registration

Without a live contract or product on Astar L1, your application would not meet the Code of Conduct for dApp Staking and would likely not pass a governance vote.

:blue_book: dApp Staking Code of Conduct

dApp Staking is not a grant program. To qualify, projects must have an existing and ongoing business. At the time of listing, a project must have a live product or MVP and sufficient documentation for token holders to make informed voting decisions.

I encourage you to respect the process and requirements as outlined in the documentation to ensure a successful application.

Let me know if you have any questions — happy to support.

I can also deploy soon on astar, the contract will only need to be modified in small functions, so to speed up everything I can do it in advance if you request that it is necessary. I can make an updatable proxy contract. We are just pushing to speed up all the practices and have the game live as soon as possible. We want this game to be available to you also as a means for airdrop and sharing rewards… create events, Astar L1 needs this movement, let’s make it a reality please, we can help you and the community

They can apply for a UCG and get approved into dApp staking that way too right? Without having a dApp deployed on Astar (key difference between UCG proposal and dApp staking proposal last i checked)

@Gaius_sama If this can be taken into consideration we can apply for UCG, so we avoid publishing a contract that in any case we would have to change later. Not that it is a big problem, but it would speed things up. We are waiting for an answer then both on the direct grant and on UCG.

Regarding the use of AoC in the astar ecosystem to create support and collaboration with different projects, and therefore use the game and the achievement of onchain levels as a method of airdrop of rewards, we want to share with you for example what we will soon do together with the WUD team a memecoin in strong trend, there will be items in the game that will guarantee future drops in the WUD community.

Consider that currently there are not many games that allow this, not only here on astar but in general in the entire dotsama ecosystem, this is what we have always wanted to achieve, make the game a real system to connect different communities and give rewards.

We would be happy to receive a response from @sota @Maarten on our proposals, is it something that can help the Astar L1 ecosystem? It would be important for us to receive your feedback.

Let’s share more ideas about possible collaborations like on WUD…

as you can see, the next step after the first development of the saga on both moonbeam and possibly astar, will be to create a proprietary marketplace. It will be a very difficult challenge, but necessary, because we will not be able to rely on singular forever. The management of 3d assets is really something original (think about how many easter eggs we can insert on each single nft, unlike 2d) but we must be independent from third-party services. However, this is something we will only think about later, after completing the first phase.

Amazing, would love to collab with you guys too to provide item airdrops in your game, and even make our NFTs playable characters in your game using RMRK cross compatible capability (Project: ApeXChimpz / AXC).

Any more detail about the collaboration with WUD? Would that bring more users to Astar eco?

Hello, the collaboration with Wud will be available on moonbeam the next weeks after the lunch. It’s an example that we made for understand you what we can do with community events. When we will have the correct structure we can do a lot of collaboration @Dumbell for sure.

@Gaius_sama what are the timings for the vote on our proposal and instead regarding direct listing with ucg as @FFR23 suggested is it possible? thanks

Hi @SFY_Labs

As I mentioned in my initial message, my recommendation is for you to apply to the UCG program.

As for the treasury proposal, the Main Council is still evaluating it. Since it’s now the weekend, we’ll follow up with feedback next week.

In the meantime, feel free to prepare and publish your UCG application in this discussion.

UCG Proposal for Astar Network

Sfy Labs is requesting a UCG grant for an initial period of 4 months, renewable up to 8 months if the work is well received by the community.

SFY commits to beginning the development of a Dungeon Saga for Astar Network within Age of Chronos, a game currently in development on the Moonbeam network.

SFY will provide regular progress reports and documentation in accordance with the terms of the grant.

The game will be made available to the Astar community as a tool for airdrops and reward distribution.

Allocation of Funds:

  • Support ongoing operational costs, including game server infrastructure and third-party services (e.g., Thirdweb, which currently costs approximately $500/month).
  • Fund a paymaster wallet to cover gas fees on behalf of players. This will enable free-to-play experiences (such as minting, crafting, and other blockchain interactions), made possible through our integration with Thirdweb’s gasless transaction features.
  • Invest in marketing and community growth efforts to expand both the game’s reach and the Astar ecosystem.

Currently, six team members are actively working on the game. With the support of this grant, we could significantly accelerate development and deliver something unique for Astar, while also fostering interaction between communities across different chains.

Thank you for your support.

In the meantime that we receive an answer, to better understand the type of game we have developed on moonbeam, I attach some gameplay videos.
The game as you can see is an old school game in the style of Legend of Grimrock, a dungeon crawler where you have to defeat enemies, find artifacts and improve your characters onchain.

The characters will not only receive an improvement level onchain, but will also have the ability at the end of the level to craft a new equippable element. This will improve the character’s abilities in the following dungeons. We have estimated an average game time of more than 30 minutes for each single dungeon, so quite important. Players will mint the basic characters for free at the beginning of the game, but they will be able to resell and move them only and exclusively if they have played at least the first dungeon. Nfts Soulbound. This is to avoid passive players.

This is the 3d gear of the nfts, there is nothing like it currently.
The choice of equippable 3d nfts is certainly a complex choice, but it elevates the game and future features.

Hi SFY Labs team,

Thanks for sharing your updated proposal and for your continued interest in building on Astar. We appreciate the detailed context you provided and the work you’ve done with Age of Chronos so far.

After a thorough review, the Astar Main Council has decided not to approve the treasury request in its current form. We want to take a moment to explain our reasoning and offer suggestions for a path forward.

Main Council Feedback:

While your development roadmap is clear and the technical ambition is appreciated, the council felt that the proposal currently lacks key components that would justify treasury funding from the Astar ecosystem, particularly:

  • Lack of a go-to-market or ecosystem engagement strategy:
It’s not clear who the target users are, how the game will attract players, or what kind of user base or visibility it could generate for Astar.
  • Unclear value proposition for the Astar Network and the ASTR token:
The proposal doesn’t provide enough detail on how this game would contribute to Astar’s growth — whether through new users, activity, token utility, or network impact. Without this clarity, it’s difficult to evaluate the ROI or broader ecosystem benefit of this funding request.
  • Uncertainty around community and financial impact:
While we recognize the effort and commitment from your team, treasury funding is ultimately an investment from the community. There needs to be a clearer case for how this project delivers value back to Astar stakeholders.

What We Recommend Instead:

Rather than closing the door on this proposal, we suggest you submit it as a public referendum. This would allow the ASTR community to vote directly on whether to support your project with treasury funds.

By doing so, you can gauge community interest and potentially secure the same amount of funding — 990,000 ASTR — via on-chain approval by token holders. You can follow this example format to structure the referendum if you choose to move forward with that route. Let me know if you need help to create the metadata and public proposal.

We appreciate your willingness to contribute something unique to the Astar ecosystem and encourage you to continue refining the proposal. We’d be happy to see a revised version that includes more information around user engagement, measurable impact, and the strategic benefits for Astar.

Thanks again for your proposal — we’re looking forward to what you build next.

Best regards,
Astar Main Council

Impressive updates, team!
I have some questions regarding your token strategy.

  • How does your game intend to utilize the ASTR token within its ecosystem?
  • What specific use cases or utilities will ASTR have in your game?
  • Will players need ASTR to access certain features, make in-game purchases, or participate in gameplay?
  • Do you plan to integrate ASTR into your game’s reward mechanisms or economy?
  • Is ASTR required to mint, upgrade, or trade in-game assets such as NFTs?
  • Are there any staking or governance functionalities in your game that will involve ASTR?
  • How do you plan to encourage adoption and usage of ASTR among your player base?
  • Will there be any benefits or exclusive content for users who stake ASTR?
  • Are you considering cross-chain utility for ASTR, or will its use be limited to Astar Network?

Thanks for the application.

Could you provide a breakdown of your UCG roadmap over the next 4 months (e.g., month 1, month 2, month 3, month 4) along with the expected performance KPIs?

Hello @Gaius_sama , thank you for your response.

First of all, allow us to address the three points that are unclear:

  1. The user base we intend to involve consists of the Astar community on L1. We are confident, thanks to our experience with Moonbeam during the last Lunar Gaming Festival, that a game like Age Of Chronos can be used by the community throughout the saga we will create, and even beyond that. In fact, the idea, shared multiple times, is to make the game a tool for sharing rewards with users who demonstrate active participation on the network. With on-chain metrics, not just stating that a certain number of players have played the game.

  2. We shared a detailed article about how the game works, specifying all the phases—from the initial minting to the creation of new NFTs and the achievement of on-chain levels. All of this happens solely and exclusively using Astar tokens. While we cannot predict the exact number of players who will want to participate, given that the game is free-to-play and truly innovative in terms of the unique NFT drops, with a market that is still developing, we believe it will undoubtedly entertain the entire Astar community from day one. After the first saga, Astar will have a complete game available, which can be invested in for future upgrades or used as a real-world on-chain development example for new developers interested in the ecosystem. Not to mention that everything developed will comply with IP rules.

  3. Stakeholders have repeatedly shown interest in our project, just read this chat. We are disappointed by your decision not to take a clear stance on our project. It’s truly unimaginable, especially considering the amount requested—roughly three times what others have requested from the treasury for daily marketing events. We are delivering a complete game, solely for the Astar network, and at the same time, with a significant opening towards future cross-chain possibilities.

Personal Considerations:

We greatly appreciate the openness you continue to show towards us, it is not something to be taken for granted, and the suggestion towards a public proposal is, of course, accepted.
The current proposal was presented to avoid issues of disinterest; we have noticed limited participation in the public voting, so we don’t want to dwell on this, but we see it as very difficult to get an objective response from this proposal process (not to mention the timing, which is important to us). We will proceed with it regardless, but given the details provided, including the explanation of individual on-chain transactions and the protection of all created graphic assets, we expected an openness to the proposal in the council itself.

Today, on Astar, both we, the council, and the community have expressed doubts and concerns regarding the management of dApps. Our proposal method was and still is a win-win for developers and the community; there is no room for errors or failure in development on our part, so it could have been considered something different, from which to start and then structure the future as well.

We are a real company that has repeatedly expressed a desire to create a legally binding contract with the foundation, so we have shown the utmost transparency in all processes.

The future of the game is conceivable, but if there’s no interest in supporting it simply because some users believe the future may not be bright, then the proposal and the idea of the grant are pointless, and probably even the help provided through dAppstaking.

The goal of SFY is not to create a winning AAA game that could be a game-changer in the blockchain space, but, as stated in the article shared multiple times, it’s to create something certain and grow together with the community in both the current and future iterations of the game.

The only point you should allow us to make is this:
Currently, on Astar L1, there is no game that uses the Astar token, nor NFTs, nor the combination of them, nor promotes on-chain transactions. We are the ones proposing it, at a price well below market value, even if you combine the grant and UCG.

For two years, other games have been funded on the network, and we don’t want to make a technical or financial analysis of how those funds and resources have been managed, but it’s clear that, especially when compared to what has been allowed until today, the SFY proposal is absolutely POSITIVE and Transparent.

We can rewrite everything and present a new public proposal. We sincerely hope that this proposal will truly be voted on by the community, not just by a few wealthy individuals (this is why we reached out to the council first), and that everything we’ve said will be taken into account without personal interpretations, but with objective assessments of what is best for Astar.

Aside from a few grants for specific events, we see no other requests. Again, we hope that our proposal, which remains complex and should be carefully evaluated for the good of the community, can mark the beginning of a new cycle for all of us—one that is positive and forward-looking.

Public PROPOSAL: Age Of Chronos - Treasury Proposal

Hey Pitcoin, thanks

Astar, like any other EVM chain token, is needed to confirm on-chain transactions in the game, both on the user side and by our backend wallet, which enables and disables permissions for the users. Additionally, of course, it’s required for the minting of initial characters, crafting of items, and the achievement of on-chain levels. The token is essential.

Externally, outside the game, you can participate in the sale and exchange of NFTs via the Singular marketplace, so for that too, the Astar token is required.

The proprietary marketplace is something we’d like to add after the first release, provided we receive adequate support, but it’s a future goal.

Currently, there is no staking system, but we plan to enable this feature on Moonbeam, having moved our Donkey Gang collection from KSM to Moonbeam. If you own a Donkey, soon you’ll be able to stake it and earn rare items from their missions. We have no issues implementing the same on Astar, perhaps revisiting our old Saurus Crew (which was actually the original goal). Alternatively, we’re open to collaborations with other native Astar projects.

Without the Astar token, you can’t do much, as it is required to pay for transaction fees. When it comes to Astar staking, I assume you’re referring to dAppstaking, not staking tokens within the game, right? In that case, as we did when we were first listed (and I must say we were one of the few teams that respected compensations for stakers in both NFTs and additional Astar tokens, ask the community of around 15 million stakers we had if this is true, and especially consider that we did this despite a loss and no profit from our activities), we can definitely implement campaigns that reward the stakers supporting us in dAppstaking with special items, possibly not craftable in the game but still usable in-game.

This is just one example, but on a full structure, I repeat, think of the game as a tool. From a technical standpoint, we can do everything.

Cross-chain is one of our objectives regarding the use of our NFTs. We chose 3D for this exact reason—it’s a complex road, but it opens many doors for us in the future. We can’t make commitments right now, given the proposal at hand—it would be reckless to think about this and a proprietary marketplace today—but one step at a time, we are technically capable of doing everything. As mentioned by others, Steven, our blockchain programmer, is currently one of the minds behind the RMRK protocol we use, and the author of new standards we also use.

Speaking of these new standards, we’ve already mentioned multiple times that we’ve enabled ERC 7590 on Moonbeam, and it will also be feasible on Astar for token swapping on NFTs.

So, consider the game as a potential place for swapping memecoins, various projects that have useful tokens, and so on.

Regarding this point, we prefer to wait and see whether the project will receive both a grant and UCG, or only UCG.

In compliance with the guidelines that define dApp staking as a support mechanism for development, we believe we’ve already outlined as much as we can with regard to the possibility of making the game gas-free (which does not mean the Astar token will not be used)—potentially even just for the first X number of players. This does not take into account the significant costs associated with server management and the use of services such as Thirdweb (which allows users to register and start playing immediately using email or social login). These services are expensive, and in this regard, dApp staking would provide substantial support.

If the grant—whether through a private or public proposal—is not approved, we will proceed with a slower development pace, using the 8-month UCG period as a more significant pillar of support. However, a considerable portion of the funds would then be diverted to infrastructure and tooling rather than actual game development, and honestly, this is something we would prefer to avoid.

We kindly ask you the following:

Please evaluate the current state of development on Astar. Consider our proposal in light of everything we’ve shared, and soon, everything you’ll be able to experience first-hand on Moonbeam. Then ask yourselves, as a community: Is what we’re offering a potential starting point or not?

We cannot do more than this. We believe we’ve provided serious and detailed information—something rarely done with this level of transparency over the years. Please don’t take us as difficult or demanding; our goal is to bring real added value. In doing so, we prefer not to obscure our intentions or play with words. Perhaps this approach might put us at a slight disadvantage, but within this context, we urge you to assess all current proposals on Astar L1.

If, in the end, development on Astar is not considered worthwhile by the community—and if investing funds, even modest ones as in our case, is seen as unjustified despite what we’re offering in return (with verifiable milestones)—please let us know openly and honestly, without prolonging the process unnecessarily.

I hope I have clarified many points, especially in the answers concerning the use of Astar within the game. :folded_hands:
