Let's try again: Age Of Chronos proposal

Well this clarification is useful for all those who have been interested in this thread, I will also support the subsidy, I think the team is determined to succeed in Astar, also has a good product, I hope they will be very successful.

Sorry @SFY_Labs, but the council members are giving you a second chance (the onchain vote is passing in your favor), and upon entering the forum, instead of finding you happy and celebrating, all I can read are complaints about the amount you believe you’re entitled to from UCG.

By the way, your proposal to apply for UCG seems clear to me, as outlined in the first message of the dedicated thread you created: Age Of Chronos - UCG Proposal

Also note that the vote is passing in your favor [Whitelisting SFY Labs for Astar dApp Staking], despite @tksarah voting AYE (even though he stated in their comment that he would vote NAY for UCG), considering that the council vote concerns your admission to UCG. Likewise, @pitcoin777 voted AYE because of UCG, and NAY for Dapp Staking—though, if I understood correctly, being accepted into UCG also implies acceptance into Dapp Staking.

What you refer to as a “direct grants” of $30,000 seems to be off the table (at the moment), as reiterated by several council members and confirmed by the outcome of your last referenda.

So, while I congratulate you on the result, I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you to be happy, celebrate, and start organizing yourselves to honor the proposal the council has voted on.

Scammers celebrate free funds, knowing they are risking nothing. Serious teams plan and offer expertise. There is nothing to celebrate, we have not even shared the milestones. We know you will be a constant presence without the intervention of some admin (which should happen already now), but this does not matter. We have been very clear with our request from day one, and astar is moving towards direct grants also on soneium.

@Gaius_sama

We are waiting for a response from the council on direct grant while my team is already working on a detailed reformulation of all the milestones, for ucg and for the direct grant. We will deliver everything by tomorrow. thanks all

@SFY_Labs Could you please clarify your question and specify which council it is directed to?

Hi Gaius, sure, as we specified in this post: Let's try again: Age Of Chronos proposal - #162 by SFY_Labs

For us it would be important to understand if only after having presented the milestones for the direct grant and created a motion to vote for the council, we could receive the funds necessary to reach $30,000.

We have structured our proposal with direct grant + UCG, I know that the messages are now scattered everywhere but if you read the post above it specifies exactly what we are going to do.

We will not ask for funds for direct grant before having delivered the milestone and that it is carefully evaluated in all points by the council.

Today we will present in detail:

3 milestones for the direct grant
8 milestones for ucg (they will be the same as the direct grant diluted in 8 months)

Community Council does not oversee Astar’s on-chain treasury management, so I assume your question is directed to the Main Council.

The Main Council has already reviewed and rejected your initial request due to concerns around the lack of a clear go-to-market strategy and business model.

If your new request is for the Main Council to pre-approve a $30K grant, distributed upon milestone completion, this would require a new proposal and vote. However, simply changing the distribution model does not address the core concerns raised during the original review. I strongly recommend working on those points if you plan to request a reconsideration.

Please note that I cannot approve anything on behalf of the Main Council—I am only one member and not in a position to make unilateral decisions. If you’d like to move forward, submit a revised proposal, and I’ll ensure it is shared with the rest of the Council for evaluation. That said, if the proposal remains largely the same, it is unlikely to be approved.

Alternatively, as previously suggested in this thread, you may submit a new public referendum and designate a third party to hold and distribute the grant based on milestone achievements. In this case, the community will vote again and decide whether to support this structure.

Please keep in mind: grant approvals must happen through on-chain governance, either via the Main Council or public referendum—not just through informal forum discussions.

You are right on this point, we have never talked about a business model, clearly with the finished product, the idea is to incentivize trading of nfts of the game and with an active community (which will be the main initial purpose of our activity) use the game as a community airdrop tool incentivizing collaboration between teams.

But this is a step after the first development, can’t the astar council evaluate the game again based on what we are proposing today? We also don’t need third parties or complex processes, the request for onchain governance will only happen with milestones already completed. We will anticipate thanks to ucg support and collaborations with other friendly teams, we will fund everything related to the first milestone.

In this way we will avoid both in the case of a proposal evaluated by the council and in the case of a public referendum, to present a proposal without results achieved.

In the case of a public referendum, I wonder how we can make the community understand the importance of voting positively on a milestone such as number 1, where the team will reach goals that will not be equivalent to a game that is already working and testable, and that in the best case will involve in-depth research on the team and the final game.
Do you have any advice for us in this case? We are open, I think it could be an interesting conversation. For example, in the case of a public referendum we know we can count on the support of Astar Degen, because they know what we are building, but we also foresee possible negative votes given by the current inactivity of the community and in some cases simple obstacle votes. In addition to being transparent, working and presenting milestones in compliance with the agreements, how can we do to protect our work and our image as much as possible? We ask everyone for advice, obviously not just you. Thanks

@SFY_Labs

Ok let me make sure I am understanding your comments in broken down short and clear sentences.

  1. UCG will be composed of 8 milestones. Presumably 1 milestone per month to match the length of the UCG (I think UCG is 8 months?)

So if UCG is completed in 8 months, no need for Direct Grant? Please clarify.

  1. Direct Grant is composed of 3 milestones. It will take you 3 months to complete this.

In a few sentences, what is the benefit for the community of funding BOTH the UCG and Direct Grant?

It might be good to also have a cost associated with each milestone, and the future benefit it will offer. (e.g. the work in milestone 1, will feed into the work in milestone 2, will feed into the work in milestone 3, etc etc).

Any sort of Diagram or Visio would be good to visualize.

The main issues with the Direct Grant last time, was the total request being asked for, and the work not being done upfront.

Both of these issues are now being addressed, so now you need to make the community understand the value of the work you are carrying out, and the benefit this will bring to overall Astar ecosystem.

Please do this concisely and clearly in layman’s terms so everyone can understand easily, and there is no doubt, or room for misinterpretation.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Make it extremely clear on the benefits and advantages the Astar ecosystem will recieve, for funding the Direct Grant? and how will this be superior over just the UCG grant.

Yes exactly because it lasts 4 plus a possible other 4 months.

So UCG will be useful to us to continue the development in any case, even if for one reason or another the direct grant milestones are not approved.

UCG + DIRECT GRANT instead will give the possibility to have the game ready in 3 working months (obviously excluding the summer vacation weeks), and the ucg rewards will be used for server management costs + thirdweb services + paymaster which will also exclude network fees for players (astar already has an agreement with thirdweb) + social marketing + weekly campaigns with new rewards within the game (in association with the promotion of voting on dapp staking, we will create rare items craftable only for a certain period, the game has a structure that allows us to continuously vary the rewards per level on the main smart contract, therefore onchain.)

Without direct grant, the game will still be completed, but we will obviously have to dilute the milestones over the months, and in some processes (such as the creation of new monsters or game items) we will have to optimize some things that we have.
Currently with this price per token ucg would be able to get us about $18,000 in 8 months which is just over half of what was requested…

I don’t know if you have any idea of the cost of a video game. We can assure you that my team is simply repaying the development costs on the unity side. We are investing our time and work in this process almost for free.

In recent days The Kusamarian made a video about us.

Obviously I want to point out that the video was created following their personal ideas, we have not spoken to them.
They have followed the development of AoC from the first days, and they also saw the first grant request that was rejected. They also define our proposal as truly incredible in economic terms. And in the end they make a comparison with Moonbeam, but it seems that Astar has already responded with SFA and a support address finally also for games that perhaps until now was truly missing.

We believe a lot in the whole dotsama ecosystem, more than having an idea about who is acting better, we think it is really important that some projects like ours are active on the different available networks. Then clearly not all of them can share the same main idea of development and investments, this will be inevitable.

Regarding the investment in the game dapp, we add that both Moonbeam and the Web0 team are currently in contact with us to use AoC (actually with web0 we also talk about something else), in the next polkadot events. Instead of the classic proof of attendance nfts, which then end up being forgotten, it would be nice to create a stand in those events and drop to all players, an nfts usable in the game and maybe rare because it can only be dropped in those events.
In short, a functioning dapp, and not based only on unrealizable ideas, can then be used in different ways, and in fact its financing can be amortized in many different ways.

UCG Dapp Staking Support

OPTION A:

The direct grant milestones will be approved - Use of funds for:

  • Assistance with server management costs.
  • Payment for the Thirdweb SDK toolkit subscription plan.
  • Payment for the Filebase subscription plan.
  • Gasless game transactions for all players (as long as the received funds cover the expense, then the standard gas fee will have to be paid, but the game remains free, without any commission for SFY Labs).
  • Support for creating dungeons for events or playable only for a specific period and creation of the relative rewards (collaborations with other teams could fall into this category).

The report on the use of all funds will be issued every month in this case.

OPTION B:

The direct grant milestones will NOT be approved.

In this case, we will reformulate the use of the funds to complete the game’s creation by the end of the 8 months of UCG support. Based also on the current value of the $ASTR token (for example, we are currently talking about a total support of $14,000 compared to the $30,000 that we consider the minimum for full development, so less than half), we will decide how to simplify the game where possible, perhaps by offering less variety in terms of mintable rewards and the total number of levels. The game’s structure will remain the same. We strongly HOPE that this concept is understood and that qualified people will make a realistic estimate of the costs to produce such a game.

Below are the UCG Milestones

  • Launch of the complete game.

Additional Considerations:

What can the Astar community expect from this investment?

For the requested amount, it is important to understand that few teams, and only if well-structured internally, could propose the same type of work. Having already run an advertising campaign together and for Moonbeam, we can definitively state that the reputational impact alone for the network—by having a working game that can generate buzz about technology applied to the gaming context—is more than enough to justify the cost. For example, AoC will be used by these teams at upcoming Polkadot events (I don’t know if we will make it for the next event in New York as the deadline is short, June 25-26, but we will try) to entertain the public, showcase a highly technological and innovative product, and above all, change the drop method for the classic proof-of-attendance NFTs, which, let’s be honest, have become tiresome and have all but been forgotten (we ourselves worked on an incubator for Polkadot’s Sub0 in 2022, but it was never valued enough). At that event, you will receive not only an NFT that confirms your presence but also an NFT that can be used in-game and will never be mintable again except on that occasion, making it truly rare.

Community events would also benefit. What is the point of spending endless funds on social marketing if you don’t have the actual ability to engage the community? What’s better than a game for this?

Collaborations between different teams? Shall we talk about this highly underestimated aspect? If dApps are not producing, they obviously cannot collaborate either. There are valid projects that have been disadvantaged by the ecosystem itself and by the lack of work from others; for example, we have mentioned the famous absent NFT marketplaces several times.

This clearly does not mean that once the game is completed, it cannot improve and, over time, become totally independent and economically sustainable. But let’s realize—partly to also respond to the council’s request/rejection of the first proposal made (flawed proposal, our mistake)—that eventual sustainability and a long-term perspective go hand in hand with a healthy ecosystem that knows how to support the work of those who deserve it. We all wish the best for Astar. SFY is not proposing a revolutionary AAA game, we are well aware of that, but it is creating a growth opportunity for itself and giving a chance to an ecosystem that is currently stagnant in terms of grassroots development. And I hope this is not interpreted negatively, as usual, but with a critical perspective by everyone.

We’ve decided to put ourselves on the line, guys; we have everything to lose the moment we deliver every single milestone.

One last consideration: we are already studying and devising a way with our friend Steven to create cross-chain interactions for our in-game NFTs. It’s not something we plan to do right now, but when the second network, Astar, and hopefully others, are integrated into AoC, it is a goal we definitely want to achieve. Thank you and good work to all.
