The event looks like it will provide both knowledge and fun. Anyway, thank you very much for consistently organizing such good events. =)

Hello, dear Astar community! Finally, here is the Astar & Soneium at ETH Cinco de Mayo: Final report (April - May 2025)

Executive Summary :books:

Between April and early May 2025, Astar Network and Soneium executed a high-impact, multi-phase activation strategy across Mexico. The campaign focused on expanding awareness, onboarding developers, and building vibrant community engagement around the Astar collective. Designed to align with Astar’s broader goal of onboarding the next billion users, this initiative combined deep technical education with cultural relevance, creating a meaningful footprint in one of Latin America’s most promising tech landscapes.

The campaign was structured around three strategic pillars: :clipboard::building_construction::mexico:

  1. Astar & Soneium University Tour
  2. Astar & Soneium House (Hacker House)
  3. Main Sponsorship and Participation at ETH Cinco de Mayo (ETH CDM)

Each component was crafted to target different segments of the developer ecosystem: from students and new learners to experienced builders and ecosystem leaders. This multifaceted approach enabled us to nurture talent at every level and ensure long-term alignment with our vision. :handshake::brain::light_bulb:

1. Astar & Soneium University Tour :school::hammer_and_wrench::student:

Over the course of five consecutive days, I delivered educational sessions at four leading Mexican universities, one of which requested a second visit due to overwhelming interest. Each day combined theory with hands-on practice, introducing students to Web3 fundamentals and guiding them through development environments specific to Astar and Soneium. :blue_book:

Topics included:

  • Introduction to blockchain and Ethereum
  • What is Astar Network and Soneium
  • $ASTR token utility and dApp staking
  • Soneium architecture and Startale Cloud Service (SCS)
  • Full-stack dApp creation workflows using Soneium tools

The tour culminated in the creation of Soneium Speedrun, a starter project students built from scratch, designed to onboard new developers into the ecosystem.

Metrics and Achievements :bar_chart:

  • 5 sessions delivered at 4 universities
  • +120 students onboarded
  • 1 working demo project deployed
  • Dozens of resources distributed
  • A scalable framework developed for future use in regional university tours

“Building this dApp with students from scratch was more than technical learning, it was an entry into a new ecosystem.” :seedling:

2. Astar & Soneium House (Hacker House) :house:

In partnership with Frutero Club and Ángulo Ambiental, I led the development and execution of a one-week residency in Mexico City. The house welcomed 20 selected hackers to live and build together while preparing for the ETH CDM hackathon. An additional 30+ developers visited the open coworking space for workshops and ideation sessions. :luggage::globe_with_meridians::man_technologist:

Daily sessions included:

  • Architecture reviews of SCS and $ASTR integrations
  • Workshops on smart contract deployment and dApp UX
  • Pitch practice and storytelling strategies
  • Peer programming, project ideation, and feedback loops
  • How to sell your project in Web3 workshop

3. ETH Cinco de Mayo Sponsorship (May 2–4, 2025) :tada::collision::link:

At ETH CDM 2025, I led Astar & Soneium’s activation as main sponsor. Ramz supported with on-the-ground engagement and track evaluations. Our participation was centered around a technical track requiring developers to build on Soneium Mainnet using SCS and the $ASTR token. :teacher::gear::globe_showing_europe_africa:

Our activation included:

  • A booth that attracted thousands of visitors over three days
  • Two mainstage panels (Scalability & Staking Security)
  • A technical workshop explaining the Soneium architecture
  • Mentorship to over 30 developer teams in real-time
  • Distribution of over 200 t-shirts, 400 stickers, and 100 patches

:brain: Startale Cloud Service Workshop by Medellín team with Ramz & Carlos

:camera_with_flash: Selected Booth & Event Posts:

:confetti_ball: Main Event Post :loudspeaker: After Event Post

The hackathon concluded with 18 qualifying submissions to our track. We rewarded 4 outstanding teams with a total of $5,000 USDT.

Metrics and Achievements :bar_chart:

  • 500+ developers reached
  • 18 projects submitted using Astar & Soneium tech
  • 4 teams awarded across prize categories
  • 170+ developers joined our Telegram group
  • Blueprint created for future event activations across LATAM :puzzle_piece:

“We made Astar & Soneium more than just names at this event, we made them part of people’s stories.”

Impact Summary :megaphone:

This campaign demonstrated that strategic activations, when rooted in education and community, generate exponential outcomes. We educated future leaders, supported builders, and laid the groundwork for a sustainable Web3 culture in Mexico. :toolbox:

  • Over 500 developers engaged
  • 120+ students trained through academic outreach
  • 18 technical submissions built using Astar & Soneium
  • $5,000 USDT awarded to winning teams
  • 170+ Telegram community members onboarded
  • Framework established for future regional implementations :brick::blue_book::teacher:

What’s Next? :eyes:

The success of this initiative provides a model that we will replicate across LATAM. To scale our reach, we will:

  • Support ETH CDM participants and help continue their product journeys
  • Launch a second university tour in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and beyond
  • Build a grant program for local builders
  • Create short video case studies from our events
  • Establish a Regional Soneium Leaders program, empowering selected builders in each country to host similar events using our framework :globe_showing_americas::handshake::puzzle_piece:

“What we began here is the seed of a movement. It’s now time to water it.” :hammer_and_wrench:

Thank you for the detailed report, glad to hear it was a lively event!

  • It sounds like the university tour was well received, but I am curious about the specific reactions of the students. How was it?
  • Also, what exactly is the Soneium Leader Program initiative?

It totally was. The different activities really helped us motivate more and more students to apply to our track.

The students were complete beginners, over 90% had never heard of blockchain or used a wallet before. However, more than 40% were familiar with Bitcoin; they just hadn’t interacted with it.

In general, the perception was something like: “I don’t really understand this, it feels strange, but I want to learn more.”

Each session started with around 80–90 students per university, and we’d end up with 25–30 students, those were the ones who were truly interested, and we gave them as much attention as possible, even offering direct mentoring (which I personally handled).

This is an idea inspired and created by @0xRamz, and it’s about building regional leaders around Soneium.

Imagine these leaders forming their own local Soneium communities, organizing events, bringing in new people, and becoming an active part of the ecosystem… that’s our goal with this program, although for now, it’s just an idea hahaha

It’s amazing. It is very gratifying to see so many students who have little or no knowledge of blockchain participate.

I see, that’s great.

In the next 7 months I plan to organise a Hackhathon with DAO (I have seen that they have good metrics when they organise with sui), a community focused event and 1 side event at Builder Week Istanbul (like Devconnect).

The activities you have done have been a reference work for future events, congratulations. Here’s what I’m curious about;

Turkey has a wide variety of crypto ecosystem and I am someone who participates in almost all of them (Avax, Starkent, Bitcoin, AllEthLayer2…) I saw the following in these events;
Powerful projects in the ecosystem also take part in the event and distribute prizes to event participants. For example, Avax’s largest wallet application sends 1 $AVAX to 1 random person who downloads the application. Or a project distributes a loyalty programme (NFT Poap) at the event of a completely different ecosystem.

Which projects in the Astar&Soneium ecosystem can we include in the events we will organise? Have you included them? I want to learn about this and think a little out loud.

Hello, @MrKarahanli-Emre. I’m glad to hear you’re thinking about organizing a hackathon, it’s a huge undertaking, but when done well, it can yield amazing results.

Just like you, I’ve also observed the marketing and user acquisition strategies executed by other large protocols/projects in the EVM ecosystem. I’ve even participated in some of these dynamics to “understand” them, and I’ve managed to grasp:

  1. What kind of funnel they implement and the outcomes.
  2. What the opportunity cost and ROI of this approach are.
  3. What happens after they acquire the user.

That’s why I can confidently say I have a strong understanding of how our ecosystem operates (up to this point).

To respond to your question specifically, it all depends on your strategy (refer to the points above). For example, for the ETH Cinco de Mayo hackathon, @0xRamz and I focused on:

  1. Introducing users to Soneium and its toolings.
  2. Encouraging preferential use of $ASTR.
  3. Supporting the creation of applications that would impact the TVL on Soneium.

That’s why I introduced users and developers to apps like Sake Finance, Neemo, Kyo, and everything DeFi-related, because that was our goal.

We can definitely do some incredible brainstorming for the event you have in mind. I’d be happy to support you in that area.

OFF TOPIC: I’d love to return to Turkey to support you at this event, what concerns me is that you’re planning to hold it in December .

Hi @Juminstock it’s great to see more people learning about the ecosystem and being encouraged to participate both at the community and technical levels. It looks like the event was pretty awesome! :rocket:

I understand a little bit better what I need to focus on. It would make sense to move forward in harmony with Astar collective.

Please check your TG DM box for brainstorming

OFF TOPIC: We will always find something to do in Turkey. Summers make you sweat, sea, sand beach… winters make you cold, luckily we have the oldest history of hammams and spas in the history of the world. Feel free to visit in December :D. It can also still be hot in September (global warming effects)

Although not yet finalized, estimated event dates;

1-) September 1-7, BWIstanbul Side E., Astar&Soneium Promotion.
2-) November-December, Hackathon.
3-) Mid-February, Community Oriented Event (supported skiing, yoga etc.).

What an incredible initiative! I’m really happy to see Ramz and you leading this kind of event in LATAM. I’d love to know if there was any feedback from the new devs about the ecosystem — were they excited? Is there a trend toward building in Solidity, etc.?
Thanks so much for everything, and even more for that epic photo lol

It has been a great planning and event to see you guys, the task of bringing web3 to the masses is not easy but not impossible and through these events you are achieving it.

The metrics are beastly, if this happens now I can’t imagine how big the next steps will be.

PS: Wow Ramz is super tall

Of course! Let me support you with a brainstorming session via Telegram .

Right? It was truly an amazing experience because of all the work we put into it.

There was a lot of interest in Soneium and its connection with Sony Block Solutions Labs and the major Japanese companies that are part of the ecosystem, that’s very appealing to developers.

We should turn it into an NFT haha.

Exactly! In fact, the goal is to create a structure where any member of the Astar Collective can execute this kind of event and achieve similar metrics if done correctly. For now, the objective is to keep gathering feedback and improving the playbook.
