Astar & Soneium in ETH Cinco de Mayo

Hello community, I am pleased to return with a proposal for our Astar & Soneium protocols, with the intention of participating again in ETH Cinco de Mayo, the event that generated significant Astar adoption in my region :globe_showing_americas:.

As everyone knows, I have always made my best effort to represent Astar at every event, workshop, and social media post. I want to continue doing so, but this time, elevating our approach to achieve greater adoption.

Context

ETH Cinco de Mayo positioned itself last year as the largest blockchain event for developers and users in my region. With nearly 700 attendees and 450 hackers, it was one of the most attended events last year in Mexico.

One of the most important actions taken by the ETH CDM team last year was its enormous partnership with local universities, as more than 50% of attendees were final-year university students, representing a great opportunity for developers starting their professional careers.

Finally, ETH Cinco de Mayo participated in governmental communication channels, which helped obtain nationwide event visibility.

TL;DR

With this context in mind, I propose participating in the event again on a larger scale. I want to push the presence of Astar & Soneium and make them the reference protocols of the event. To accomplish this, I plan to:

  1. Execute the Astar & Soneium House (Hacker House) to conduct workshops, educate developers, and have a very human connection with our future hackers.
  2. Implement “Road to ETHCDM by Astar & Soneium”, a series of virtual events to educate future attendees about Astar, $ASTR, and Soneium.
  3. Develop the Astar Developer Pack, a compilation of tutorials, technical guides, libraries, and everything necessary for developers to use during the hackathon and create excellent products.
  4. Actively participate in ETH Cinco de Mayo with a booth where we can exchange merchandise, onboard users, and provide developer support.
  5. Increase $ASTR usability during the hackathon, with the primary objective of encouraging developers to create projects focused on our token’s utility.

I look forward to reading your comments. Let’s make Astar & Soneium massively adopted in Latam.

Thanks for the proposal!
Thank you for planning and participating in events at LATAM. We support this proposal.

  1. The sponsorship fee was listed as $9100, but the documentation shows DIAMOND as $3500+>7000. Are the amounts correct?

  2. You will participate as Astar at the ETH CDM itself, but will talk about Astar and Sonieum in your booth and sessions. Am I correct in my understanding that the hackathon will cover both Astar and Sonieum?

  3. I don’t think it will be a problem, but we need to make sure it doesn’t clash with the Astar Foundation or Startale strategy.

Thank you for your continued support! All for the benefit of the Astar & Soneium ecosystem.

That’s right! The amount is correct. We happened to get a 40% discount on the total cost of the partnership because we (Astar) sponsored the last version of this event. They recognize our participation!

You’re right mate! My goal is to use Astar as a gateway for users and developers to get to know Soneium. I formed a small Astar community in Mexico last year, now it’s time to boost this community.

Also, during the hackathon, I will ask all hackers to create applications using $ASTR inside Soneium.

In fact, this whole proposal was put together and planned under the advice of @0xRamz, he was a fundamental piece in us being here talking about this proposal.

As @0xRamz mentioned to me during his consultancy, one of the main objectives is to boost the Soneium community, in this case, in LatAm .

Awesome to see the purposal go up @Juminstock! Supportive of the efforts you have made over the almost 2 years and with the LatAm region. And due these efforts, the roots you have, and the community you’ve form, I do think its a great event to leverage to bring more exposure to Astar and loop in Soneium in terms of community exposure.

In my opinion, Astar Agents could take the lead in bringing together and forming stronger regional communities and also begin to educate about Soneium in relation to Astar. There is a lot of overlap as we know, and the ASTR as the ecosystem token - being used by many dapps now - tie in nicely. Events like ETH Cinco de Mayo can serve as a nice launchpad of sorts for growing and strengthening a regional community, or at the least to start a community.

@you425 I would go as far as to encourage Astar Agents to think around web3 events that are happening nearby/in their country and begin to brainstorm how we can begin to bring Astar and Soneium to the attendees - not only a booth, but with touching base with hackers/builders too.

While the costs may seem high at first glance, it is clear that the majority of the cost goes to event sponsorship and ongoing expenses.
You have been organizing events for many years and representing Astar very well in IRL events. I support you.

There is one thing I am curious about;
Can Soneium officially help to fund this event?
(We know, soneuim is a sister project for us - like two sides of the same coin - but if the event is organized under the name Astar&Soneuim, maybe soneium can provide some support).

I see, I understand.
Thank you very much.

Since you have already consulted with Rumz and you seem to be cognizant as Astar Foundaiton, I will support this proposal as is!

Thank you for noting and highlighting the effort we have been making over the last two years, Ramz, it is appreciated.

Regarding this, I agree wholeheartedly, the formation of local communities is what will drive the macro growth of the protocol, as there will be some closeness to our users.

In fact, our presence at ETH Cinco de Mayo last year allowed us to form a community in Mexico and I have been pushing this adoption from Colombia as well.

That’s right! I am aware that this has been the highest budget I have ever requested, but as it is well broken down, it is all for a strong marketing strategy.

I want users and developers to see Astar & Soneium and say: hey, these protocols interest me, I want to be there.

As always, I appreciate all the support that comes from you!

I don’t really have a clear answer to this question but it seems to me that Soneium has no public treasury so we can’t count on funding from they. It’s a great question but I really don’t think they can.

I fully support the proposal! I believe it is essential to encourage this type of activation.

However, I think the merchandising costs are too high. I understand the importance of brand activation and share of mind, but since we are dealing with a technology (blockchain), I believe it would be more impactful to focus on rewards for builders rather than spending on hardcover notebooks, t-shirts, etc.

Astar’s final product is a service, and I support optimizing resources by cutting back on items that won’t significantly contribute to the proposal’s outputs at this stage. Our treasury is limited.

That said, you have my full support for the rest! Congratulations on the initiative and the proposal. Let’s gooo! :rocket:

First of all, I’d like to thank you for consistently organizing these great events. I’ve been reading through the details, especially the Milestones section, which is quite thorough and clear. I’d like to ask a few additional questions.

The goals, from what I’ve read, seem quite clear. But on the other hand, if the goals aren’t achieved as planned, what contingency plans does the team have in place?

Hey, Pitcoin, thanks for adding your valuable comments to this proposal, my friend.

Your observation is absolutely spot on, and I truly appreciate you sharing it and bringing a new perspective. I was looking at it more from a marketing angle, but you’re absolutely right—the most important thing is to drive adoption of the Astar & Soneium chains and attract builders with compelling rewards.

I’m going to remove several of these items and request a new quote ASAP. I’ll allocate the remaining funds to a rewards campaign for builders on the Road to ETHCDM, ensuring that only the hackers attending our in-person events and the Astar & Soneium House are rewarded.

Thanks again for your insight!

Good proposal, Carlos is doing a great role IRL in LATAM; give prominence to the construction of dApps using ASTR as the main asset is what we need for the echo at this time, it is gratifying that you encourage hackathon participants to use ASTR in their dApps, on the other hand I agree with @pitcoin777 funds should be used as incentives to enhance the development as a whole according to the achievements of each participant that ensures a fair distribution of what is available for the organization of the event. Congratulations, go ahead.

Hello @pitcoin777 and @Vangardem! Thank you for your comments regarding the proposal, I have modified the budget we had for merch, I reduced it and created a new item where we will benefit the university students and builders within the Astar & Soneium House.

This is how the merch budget was :backhand_index_pointing_down:t3:

Thank you very much for your contributions to the proposal!

Hello, dear community and ecosystem agents team!

After a productive conversation with @Gaius_sama and following his advice, I’ve decided to reduce the budget requested for the current proposal. This decision comes from the need to be mindful of how we use our treasury and to carefully evaluate the expected outcomes of each community initiative we undertake — such as Astar & Soneium’s participation in ETH Cinco de Mayo, a region that is not yet part of our core market (but it will be — that is precisely the goal that both @0xRamz and I are working toward).

In the spirit of full transparency, I’m sharing here the updated document with the adjusted activities and budget :backhand_index_pointing_right:t3: Main proposal - Google Docs

TL;DR

  1. I delete the virtual initiatives and rewards I planned to give to participants.
  2. I delete Astar’s participation in a side event prior to the main event.
  3. I Reduced the number of prizes to be awarded during the main hackathon.
  4. I Modified the sponsorship for the main event from Blue Chip to Bronze (lower cost of participation).
  5. Finally, I wanted to give a scolarship during the Astar & Soneium House, we will not give it anymore.

In conclusion, the budget is now 500K $ASTR, I reduced the requested budget by 25%.

Thanks to @Gaius_sama’s advice, the possibility has been raised to approve the current proposal on Subsquare for 622K $ASTR. However, the commitment is to use ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY 500K $ASTR. I personally commit to returning the remaining funds as soon as I receive them.

Why is this being proposed?

Because the event is just two weeks away, and we urgently need to cover costs. To minimize the waiting time, the idea is to approve the proposal that is already in the treasury.

Thank you all in advance for being part of this conversation. As I’ve mentioned before, the main goal is to boost Astar & Soneium and soon turn Latam into one of the key markets for our ecosystem.

Also, we’re already part of the event :backhand_index_pointing_right:t3: https://x.com/ETHCincoDeMayo/status/1910512553077121323

LFGM & MAGA!

@Mouthmouth68 and @BoomBLB I sincerely thank both of you for your participation in this discussion and your support for the proposal. As you have mentioned, the main objective is to promote Astar & Soneium at this event.

What is most important now is that we are only two weeks away from the event.
