Proposal: Astar Network Meetup in Tokyo

Thx for the update @tksarah ! Maybe it make sense to keep that amount for the next meetup , I want to try to see how we can manage events organization to avoid the situation @Juminstock had the last time. Due to price drop the requested funds weren’t enough so I will prefer to let You keep the remaining tokens and use them as an extra security fund.
I may suggest to ask a little bit more tokens during Your next proposal  Always glad to hear the opinion of the other ambassadors

@VasaKing @tksarah
I definitely support the thought of holding funds, while the market is behaving favorably at the moment, planning expenses for an event based on such a volatile token was to turn out to be not so favorable .

Thanks for your comment.
Indeed, controlling the remaining balance with ASTR tokens is subject to market influence. Since the budget proposal is calculated based on the market price at that time, if continuous expenditure is expected in the plan, it might be a good idea to include in the proposal to convert and hold the funds in stablecoins in advance.
For this time, I would like to return the remaining tokens to the treasury after purchasing the promotional items. Thank you.

The volatility of ASTR relative to cost is indeed a difficult thing to determine.
A little more (3-5%?) I think it is safe to give to the Treasury and return the excess to the Treasury. There will inevitably be a trust, but this is not an option.

As for this surplus, I think it is healthier to return it once than to have the whereabouts of the funds become hazy with no plan for the next one.

Thank you for the update and transparency regarding the budget usage. Could you clarify if the proposal to return the remaining budget will require a separate governance vote, or will this be handled automatically after the purchase of the promotional item?

Thank you for your comment @Matt,

We would like to return the remaining amount to the treasury after the purchase of the promotional item.
Since the purchase of the item does not deviate significantly from the original proposal and maintains transparency, we believe that a separate governance vote is not necessary. What do you think?

Of course, the completed promotional item (tablecloth) will be first used at the OSS exhibition in Tokyo at the end of October, and we will provide a brief report on its usage here.

Additionally, we will log the return of the remaining funds here after the refund.

The funds were originally intended to be used for promotional purposes for the Astar brand at events in Japan, you requested to use a small fraction of the remaining money to purchase a promotional tablecloth to promote the Astar brand in Japan as well. To me this makes total sense, you are not misusing the funds, I see it as a justified purpose.

Here is my opinion

I would like to gather more opinions from everyone, and after some time (about a week), I would like to hold a vote at the Townhall regarding the handling of the remaining funds.
Thank you.

Thanks for the update and agreeing with the others. I also agree I would return the surplus and if funds needed in the future do a new proposal to keep it transparent

I also think returning the surplus is a good idea. It maintains transparency and sets a good precedent.

Looking forward to the Townhall discussion.

Hello Community,

Summary of Additional Proposal for the Use of Remaining Budget

Proposer:
Japan Ecosystem Agents

Background:

Proposal:
Allocate approximately 3,000 ASTR from the remaining budget for the cost of refreshing the tablecloth, and return the remaining budget to the treasury. The tablecloth is a promotional item and can be continuously used for event exhibitions and meetups, thus falling within the scope of the initial budget usage.

Future Plans:
After converting the remaining budget, this thread’s proposal will be closed.

When making similar proposals in the future, we will propose clear uses for the “remaining budget” and include measures such as converting ASTR to stablecoins (USDC) after budget acquisition to minimize the impact of market volatility.

Voting Period:
Voting is scheduled to take place at TownHall from 2024/10/1 to 2024/10/8.

Thank you.

Due to the frequent volatility and the really fast paced news flow I think it is always a good idea to have some extra rewards left for unpredictable situations. Nobody is speaking about millions here but sometimes I also try to imagine myself in the opposite situation. If I needed funds to refresh the tablecloth what I need to do ? Will the time spent worth the efforts ?
Imo we need to focus on how much percentage we can agree on (due again to extreme volatility of crypto markets) and for me a 10-20% should be enough to dedicate to these activities.

In this case we already have Astr tokens to use and I agree with @tksarah on the budget spending but I think we should focus on this topic and increase the usage of the treasury for the better of Astar Network.

Thanks you for your update and your transparency.
I see no objection for renewing the “tablecloth". I am sure it will be use for the next meetups.
Return the remaining budget (after deduced the tablecloth price) is all to your credit!

@tksarah I believe that using part of the extra ASTR you have left to renew the tablecloth is a fair proposal and that it will certainly be an expense that you will need for many events to represent AstarNetwork. Absolutely in favor.
As for converting ASTRs into stable coins to avoid volatility risk, I think it can be a good idea.
One thing I would like to add is the question that @VasaKing mentioned and which I give full support to.
I believe that we need to open a discussion regarding the possibility of having a small part of the treasury available to agents for everything related to the sponsorship of AstarNetwork within their communities/countries of reference.

It would be nice to create small monthly funds/budgets intended for the various reference areas of the agents (Astar Italy, Astar Turkey, Astar Japan, Korea etc…) which can be used (or not) for small marketing campaigns within their reference communities.
I’ll give you an example: This Thursday Luca Poggi and I had an Astar Italia meeting together with some very active members of the Italian community at ETHMILAN, a crypto event in Milan. Having had the availability to create cheap gadgets such as ASTAR t-shirts to wear at that event and to give as gifts to the Astar Italia members who came to the event with us, would have been a nice way of uniting the community even more and making see inside the event with the astar logo (a group of people all wearing ASTAR t-shirts definitely stood out).
This was just an example obviously but what I wanted to convey was the possibility of having budgets that agents can use to strengthen the community even further and to sponsor the Astar network. Another example is the renowed Astar tablecloth as requested by @tksarah.

Thank you for your comments, @VasaKing and @SimonB .

The use of the treasury that you both mentioned is an additional topic for discussion. I have taken it as a new topic for the future.
And I felt that it might be necessary to consider updating the Astar Ecosystem Agent Program. It might be a good idea to organize and discuss these matters with the Astar Foundation, which originally launched the program, before seeking the community’s opinion on the Forum.

I support this additional proposal.
I’m managing the wallet for this budget, I will responsibly handle the funds in accordance with the voting results.

Thanks for the updated proposal and its great details. Let me fully support it. Curious to know if the tablecloth is the only item to be replaced this time or any other items to be replaced or newly purchased in the coming time frame, saying by the end of 2024. If any, perhaps it might be easier to take such buget into account?

Thank you very much for the updates! If you are going to have the next meetups (I understand the time is not decided, that is ok), I think it is probably fine to even stake those Astar and then use it for the next meetup so you don’t need to apply for treasury next time, I have trust on the Agent, and it seems the amount of Astar is not huge as well.

Thank you for comment.

Yes, this time it is only the tablecloth. There were no other items with significant consumption.

Thank you Takeshi, I really appreciate transparency and this is very good step towards maintaining our community especially regarding budget expenses.
