Community Council Application | Carlos Rodríguez

GM, Astar Community!

I’m Carlos Rodríguez, Community Manager and Developer Relations based in Colombia, operating in the GMT-5 timezone. I’m opening this post to submit my candidacy as a member of the Astar Community Council.

Relevant Qualifications & Experience

I’m a tech and project-building enthusiast, deeply passionate about blockchain since my very first encounter with the technology. I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to projects such as Polygon, serving as DevRel as a Service (here’s a reference), and Polkadot, where I led multiple technical initiatives in my region. You can find more about that here and here.

Track Record of Contributions

I began participating in the Astar ecosystem in late 2022, initially as a tech enthusiast drawn to its technology and brand, and eventually became the only technical ambassador for Astar in all of Latin America. Since then, I’ve led events, workshops, and various initiatives focused on Astar across the region.

As a reference, you can see my many activations during my time as an ambassador across countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Honduras, Argentina, and Mexico:

  • Astar Network bootcamp in Medellin → Link.
  • Astar Network workshop in Perú → Link.
  • Astar Network hackathon sponsorship in Mexico → Link.
  • Astar & Soneium in Colombia and Venezuela → Link.
  • Astar Network in ETH Cinco de Mayo → Link.

And more.

Motivation & Vision for Astar

I’m a firm believer in Astar’s long-term vision. From the very beginning, I’ve been drawn to its unique way of connecting the richness of Japanese culture with blockchain technology, creating a one-of-a-kind component in the Web3 ecosystem. In addition, it offers one of the most innovative products I’ve seen: Astar dApp Staking.

My contributions to Astar have mainly focused on expanding the brand’s reach and supporting its development through what I believe to be the most powerful mechanism for evolution: Astar’s decentralized governance.

In conclusion, Astar represents an ecosystem of richness and connection to me.

Weekly Availability

My weekly availability is flexible and adjusts based on the tasks that come up. I don’t have any major time constraints, so I can confidently commit to fulfilling the role.

Onchain Identity Verification

My onchain identity has already been set.

I’d be honored to have your support. :astr:

Hi @Juminstock

thank you for your application.

I feel that you would make a great add to the ACC.

I highly appreciate your long-standing contributions and fully support your participation in the ACC.

As I also commented on 🗳️ Open Seat on the Astar Community Council – Apply Now! - #3 by you425, I have one concern regarding the organizational balance of ACC members. If Juminstock joins the ACC, there will be three members from the Core Team. We need to carefully consider this point.

Has my support - @Juminstock has proven time and time again to have no underlying motives in this eco besides the success of Astar.

Thank you so much for your support on this proposal, I truly feel fortunate to have it.

I appreciate you bringing up this point, @you425, as it’s extremely important to maintain balance among the members of the ACC. Allow us to provide an appropriate response in the original thread.

Hi @Juminstock

Thank you for your application. Of course, I warmly welcome it.

However, I am concerned about your workload. As a member of Startale, I know you’re already handling many tasks energetically across Astar and Soneium. Adding ACC responsibilities on top of that could significantly increase your workload. In such a case, your priorities will understandably lean towards your Startale tasks. While I believe there will be overlaps between ACC and Startale activities, I’m concerned that without clear boundaries, it may cause confusion or strain on both you and the Startale organization.

I agree, I don’t know the details of your workday or your workload, but I believe that holding two such important roles inevitably leads to reduced efficiency in at least one of them. Furthermore, I think it would be more appropriate to assign one of these roles to someone with different ideas and approaches. I have great respect for you and your work, and I don’t doubt your good faith or commitment, but in a team, it’s essential to diversify opinions and working methods to make them complementary rather than uniform. This fosters a richer and more dynamic group, avoiding overly similar or flat approaches.

Thank you for your application, Carlos. You’ve made strong, consistent contributions across LATAM, and your dedication as a technical ambassador has been clear. I fully support your participation in the ACC and appreciate the value you bring to the ecosystem.

As I also mentioned in the forum post, my only concern is around organizational balance—if Juminstock is elected, we would have three members from the Core Team, which is something we should carefully consider when voting. Wishing you the best of luck in the election.

Hello community! Thank you all for showing your support for my candidacy, I truly appreciate this encouragement from you.

I hadn’t replied to your messages earlier because I wanted to give more members of our community a chance to share their questions. This helped me see that there’s one topic that seems to be the most recurring: the workload of my current role at Startale combined with the potential responsibilities of being part of the ACC. Let me clarify this point.

  • As the Community Manager for Astar, my main responsibility is to serve as a bridge between the protocol’s goals and actions and the community. My daily tasks include providing support, managing content, planning activities, identifying growth opportunities, and coordinating with our talented Ecosystem Agents.

  • Another key focus of mine is Astar governance. This involves several aspects such as encouraging community participation in onchain voting, supporting agents, and managing projects that want to join dApp Staking or need proposal guidance.

If you look closely, there are already many areas where my current responsibilities, my future plans, and the potential duties within the ACC overlap.

I completely understand your concerns regarding this point, but my performance will not decrease, instead, I plan to integrate ACC responsibilities into my daily workflow, which makes sense given how closely related they are.

I hope this brings more clarity. If not, I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you!

Thank you for your comment.
It seems that many of the missions you already carry out naturally overlap with the activities of the ACC.

I had some concerns about how your resources would be allocated, but your explanation was convincing and helped me understand your approach.

I’m truly looking forward to what’s ahead.
